"Alright, what do you want to do?" Esme asked as both she and Clint jogged over to one of the vans.

While Esme was just going to get out a better gun than the one that was at her hip, Clint jumped in the driver's seat, "How do you feel about getting the quinjet?"

"How fast can these things go?" the brunette asked, shutting the back seat door in favor of opening the front.

"Fast enough," Clint grinned at her.

"You are having way too much fun with this," Esme grinned back.

"I wouldn't have the job otherwise," he replied, "Now get in. And don't you dare pretend you don't enjoy it too."

The agent hid a smile and did what he said, having barely enough time to put on her seatbelt before the van started tearing down the road on the way back to the base. They made it there in record time, only six minutes instead of the just-short-of-twenty that it'd taken Esme to get there before (then again, they weren't exactly going forty five miles an hour that she'd been going before).

The brunette was quick to jump out of the van, "You're insane, Barton! Stick to piloting the quinjet. Air traffic is a lot less deadly!"

"I got us here, right?"

Esme rolled her eyes, "Sure. This time."

The two of them marched over to where the quinjet was parked right inside the base. They were on their way back to the city when a flash of fear struck Esme, and while she'd been trained for things like this, Darcy hadn't, so she sent the most powerful wave of calm that she could over the bond. The quinjet sped up.

They arrived just in time to see Thor go flying after being hit by the Destroyer. Esme was quick to switch her control over to the weapons on board, lining up a series of shots with the behemoth. It turned to them, its visor lighting up as it charged a blast itself.

A game of cat and mouse emerged, Clint navigating around all of the Destroyer's blasts while Esme sent back their own. All the while, the agent was trying her best to overpower Darcy's horror with continuous waves of confidence and hope, which she was still attempting to convince herself were her real feelings.

Then, sometime after its seventh miss, it started ignoring them in favor of looking back to Thor, who was broken in a heap. Esme's eyes widened when the monster leveled a shot with the dying man.

She turned to Clint, frantic, "What should we-"

A massive lightning bolt shot down from the sky, striking the Destroyer's own energy blast, creating a huge explosion. Their vision was impaired by the smoke and dust it created, and the windshield of the jet cracked. When the debris cleared, Esme was greeted with the sight of Thor, not dead, with body armor and the hammer that had once been stuck in the ground at the SHIELD base.

"Oh. My. God," Esme mouthed, eyes wide as he knelt, bringing the hammer to the ground.

Lighting struck the Destroyer again, causing it to convulse. Thor started to swing the hammer, causing a small tornado that began to collect the rubble around the city. The two agents were only shocked out of their awe when they realised that the quinjet was being pulled into the vortex of wind.

Clint sprung into action, engaging the thrusters to start pulling them away from the forming tornado, "Did you know he could do that?"

"I thought he was crazy!" Esme replied, re-locking the targeting system on the Destroyer, which was holding its ground.

The brunette tried firing a shot, but it just got caught by the vortex, which shot it away from its intended target. She could only watch as the Destroyer's faceplate lifted up and yet another blast was charged. Thor dove straight at it, the hammer outstretched. It deflected all of the energy being put out by the monster until the two finally colidded, the Destroyer falling limp as the vortex of wind cut out, burying it as soon as Thor had left it in a pile of useless metal.

"Oh. My. God."

Esme actually said it that time.

I hope that you've all had a great day. We're nearing the end of this book, so there's going to be one to three more chapters until the epilogue (depending on how long I stretch out the rest of this). Of course that won't be the end of Esme and Darcy, they'll make a brief appearance in Sokovia (in the next few chapters of it) and possibly in the Civil War books. Anyway, I hope that you'll all have a great day, and I hope to see you all again soon with chapter nineteen. :)
