I am back in the dean's office waiting for my punishment. Ms. Whitaker is staring at her computer then typing something. I notice that her rhythm and timing are off when she types. She has longer keystrokes.

"Did you hurt you hand Ms. Whitaker," I ask. She gives me a puzzled look and then says,

"Yes i did Ms. Iparis. I was playing softball." I small and say,

"Maybe you should swing from you are rather than your wrist. It will cause you less pain." She glares at me.

"You may have gotten a perfect 1500 Ms. Iparis, but trust me you are not always a genius,' she says in a deep voice. "Looks like your brother is here to pick you up again." When my brother walks in Ms. Whitaker gets up and goes toward him.

"Welcome Captain Metais Iparis. Nice to see you again," she says. My brother seems uncomfortable but says,

"It's unfortunate it's like this again. I'm going to take June home now.' As i walk out of the dean's office a boy named Derek shouts,

"How many stories did you climb?"

"Fourteen stories,' i shout back as i get into the jeep. Metias's friend, Thomas, gives me a small smile in the rear-view window. What did you do this time Junebug?" Metias asks me. I guess that he is calling me Junebug again. That was his pet name for me when i was a kid.

"I climbed fourteen stories in class time without permission," i say quietly. He turns around to look at me and raises an eyebrow. He doesn't seem mad.

"So you're telling me that you wandered out of class, went off campus and climbed fourteen stories without getting caught." I smile and say,

"OH i got caught. Didn't you see the helicopters.'

"That was you. I was worried out of my ind. I thought they'd mistake you for Day and shoot you,' he says his eyes getting watery. I try to meet Thomas's eyes on the mirror but he keeps them on the road. I touch Metias's hand and say,

"Hey I'm sorry that i got you worried. I really am." He turns around to look at me.

"I guess Drake University doesn't keep you busy," he says sighing.

"No kidding. They keep teaching us to strip a AK-47 and a M-16 over and over again. We learned this stuff when i was thirteen.' i say. Metias smiles.

"Just out of curiosity, how fast did you climb those stories?" he asks.

"Six minutes. Why do you ask?" i say.

"Dang! That must be some sort of record," he says excitingly. Thomas gives Metias a puzzled look. He finally says,

"Metias how is June-- I mean Ms. Iparis going to learn anything if you keep praising her for the stuff she does." Metias laughs and i get confused. Why does Metias praise me for the stuff i do?

"Cheer up Thomas. She doesn't so it everyday does she,' Metias answers. When we get to our apartment Metias and I get out and walk toward the front door.

'I'm going to come a little late. Gotta take care of the hospital,' he says. "Don't cause and trouble and don't wander off."

"When have i ever wandered off,' i say smirking. In the back round i can see Thomas smiling. As Metias walks back to the jeep he says,

"Goodbye Junebug.' Thomas gives me a small bow.

"Goodnight Ms. Iparis,' he says as he walks back to the jeep. I wave to Thomas and Metias adn walk to my apartment.
