When i get to the hospital all i see is chaos and broken glass. Commander James never told me that Day had jumped out of the window, and by the looks of it Metias jumped to because his M-16 is thrown on the floor. I ask Thomas for the pendant necklace. He gives it to me and i ask,
"Can i keep this for a while?" Thomas gives me a strange look and then says,
"Sure why not." I smile at him gratefully. When i wander around the hospital i can see Thomas fidgeting with his weird looking knife. It has a triangular point and weird looking patterns on the blade it self. It take me a while to realize that the patterns are the Republic's flags. I didn't want to say anything but i can't help my curiosity,
"Did Commander James give you that?" Thomas gives me wry look and then says,
"Yes, he did. He realized how may years i have been staring at it and decided to give it to me. He gave it to me yesterday." I look at it with interest and say,
"Can i see it for a minute?" He looks like he might pass out but says,
"Alright Miss. Iparis." I get furious.
"How many times am i going to say to you just call me June. If you keep doing that i am going to get mad and eventually give up," i snap back at him. He gives me an apologetic smile. He gives me the knife and i study it for a long time. Then i give it back to him.
"Can we go visit Metias now?" i ask.
"Alright," he answers. The jeep we take to go see Metias is the exactly the same one i got in the day i got suspended. Tears well up in my eyes and stream down my cheeks. Thomas grabs my hand and squeezes it. When we arrive at the hospital Thomas says,
"I'll wait outside. Take all the time you need. By the way Commander James says he will come by shortly."
"Thank you Thomas, for everything," i say. He smiles and kisses my forehead. I start crying the moment he leaves. Everything Thomas does and says reminds me of Metias. When i look at him he looks pale and sickly. All those wires and monitors make me nervous. All sorts of things run through my mind like what if he never wakes up? or what if he forgets who he is?
"Shut up June!" i say aloud.
"Why would you tell yourself to shut up?" a voice says behind me. When i turn around i see Commander James standing there.
"Sorry. I was just talking to myself," i say. "Commander James if you don't mind, can i get five minutes alone?"
"Of course," he says. When he leaves i turn back to Metias. I walk to his bed and crouch beside him. Fighting of tears, i find the courage to say,
"Metais, if you can hear me, please come back. I don't know what to do and i don't want to lose you. Commander James took me out of Drake university and is planning to make me a soldier to replace you. Please come back. I can't do this without you." I look at him one more time before i walk out.
"Good, you're out," Commander James says. "Walk with me." I look at Thomas and he gives me a thumbs-up. " I was thinking if you can track down Day and bring him in for questioning?" Commander James says a bit too sharp.
"Sure. When do we begin." Commander James gives me a wicked grin and lays out a plan.
