Dixie's House

As we get home, Steve and Soda carry Champ inside the house laying him down.

Ponyboy came out from towards the back holding this food bowl.

It read "Champ"

I immediately asked, "Wait, Champ was our dog?"

Darry said, "No, he's umm...he's Buck's Dog."

I asked, "Her last name was Merrill, I saw it on the tombstone."

Darry said, "So?"

I answered, "So, maybe Dixie's related to Buck Merrill."

Soda, Pony, and Darry looked at each other.

The gang looked at each other and said, "Well, I've got to go see you guys later."

Everyone said that and left leaving me, my brothers, Clayton, and Champ.

Darry got up saying, "Clayton, I'll take you home."

Clayton nodded his head and stopped petting Champ.

I said, "Bye, Clayton. See you at school tomorrow."

He said bye back while leaving me, Pony and Soda, and Champ.

I watched as he ate all of the dog food up in like two seconds.

I said, "Dang, Champ! You were a hungry dog weren't you?"

He slowly wagged his tail.

I looked up at Soda and asked, "Soda, can you take me to Buck?"

He asked, "What, why?"

I replied, "Well, I want to know if Dixie is related to Buck."

He sighed and said, "Yes, Princess, she is."

My eyes widened. How come I've never heard of her?

I asked, "Well, did you know her?"

He gave me a light smile saying, "Yeah, I did."

I asked, "Well, what's she like."

His eyes started to water as he told me about her.

I asked, "Was she married?"

He looked down at the ground and hesitantly said, "Yeah, she was."

I asked, "Soda?"

He said, "Yeah?"

I asked, "Who did she marry?"

He didn't say anything.

The room was very quiet, all you could hear was Champ eating and his tail hitting the floor.

Ponyboy cleared his throat and said, "She married Two-bit."

I looked down at the ground knowing I had crossed the limit.

I replied, "I'll be in my room."

I got up running up the stairs to my room.

How could she be dead?

She was so young?

And why does Two-bit not hang around anymore?

Did I do something wrong?

I have to find out!

So later that night, when everybody in the house was asleep.

I tip toed down the stairs, leashing Champ up.

He had an address so I decided to follow it.

I also grabbed my super bright flashlight in case it got any darker outside.
