Đề bài: Some people think that excessive use of smart phones badly affects teenagers' literacy skills. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

My essay:

It is believed that the overuse of smartphones can have an adverse effect on the literacy skills which youngsters possess. I completely agree with this thinking, for the reasons provided below.

It is clearly seen that the excessive usage of smartphones may be to the detriment of adolescents' reading skills. This kind of cell phone provides users with a large variety of entertainment such as games, films and music. These recreational apps can be deeply fascinating, especially with the youth, which may lead youngsters to neglect the advantages of reading. Even when young users want to gather information, they are more likely to read news in brief and short works in lieu of long stories and high volume research books on the Internet. This situation is attributed to the fact that reading for an excessive amount of time on smartphones can impair people's eyesight severely. This is a testament to the detrimental impacts on heavy smartphone users' reading capacity.

In addition to reading skills, people's ability to write well can also be deterred sufficiently due to the act of overusing smartphones. This technological device hardly requires youngsters to write by hand, which can have an undesirable effect on their handwriting. And as typing on smartphones can be troublesome, writing messages and status on social networks with emoticons and abbreviations rather than true words are the main purposes of writing when using this item. This effect is even fortified by the development of grammar and spellchecker apps, which prevents youngsters from honing their writing skills. Vietnamese perfectly exemplifies this. A large number of teenagers now often misspell common words when writing essays and exam papers, which is ascribed to their using smartphones excessively.

In conclusion, the notion that the overdone usage of smartphones have negative impacts on teenagers' literacy skills is valid and should be encouraged.
