~Nalah's POV

I walked rapidly around my room, packing the items I was going to take with me I packed a weeks worth of clothes into a duffel bag and I had another one that was going to be used for weapons and food when I go to pack them. I zipped my packed duffel bag shut and ran out my room then downstairs, hoping to avoid any more run-ins with the undead.

I was lucky enough not to as I dumped the first duffel bag in the hallway and carried the empty one into the kitchen. I started ransacking cupboards and filled the bag with non-perishable foods, bagged food and some fresh food that would only last a couple of days. I raided the medicine cabinet and threw painkillers, vitamin C tablets, iron tablets and all medical supplies into the second duffel bag. I zipped up the bag after filling it and threw the bag beside the other one and opened the door that connected the hallway to the garage.

My dad was a bit of a camping and hunting fanatic and I was grateful that he had a lot of the equipment needed for both activities. Dad had tried to get the rest of the family into his two favourite activities but they weren't interested. I was the only one that took an interest which ended up with most of my weekends being spent on camping trips and in training areas. Most of the camping equipment was scattered around the garage. I scanned my Dad's Range Rover just to be safe, paranoia starting to set in. Even though the garage door was closed, I wasn't going to be taking any risks. I raised the bat and opened the back door. Inside, I found my little sister.

"Lucy, what are you doing here?!" I gasped as I hugged her, relieved that I had found her.

"Mom told me to hide in here, she said Dad and Em turned bad." She whimpered. I nodded in response, not wanting to tell her what had happened to them. The poor girl was only eight, I didn't want to scare her any more than she already was.

"Where did Mom go?"

"I don't know. She left me here an hour ago and hasn't come back. She said about getting something from the mall if she could."

"I'm going to get Dad's camping and hunting equipment. Can you help me?" Lucy nodded and I helped her out the car. I told her to get all the camping equipment that was in the garage whilst I gathered the hunting equipment. I obtained the cupboard keys that hung above our Dad's display cabinet and unlocked it. I open the cabinet and took out the two hand guns that were in it. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty glad Dad did get me into hunting and camping because the two activities were going to be pretty useful right now.

"I got it!" I turned to see Lucy carrying a tent, rations and extra supplies.

"Good job!" I praised her. She grinned at me and put the equipment in the trunk of the car.

"Do you have any stuff?" I asked Lucy.

"Mom packed me a bag. It's in the back of the car as well. She remembered Po." Lucy said. I smiled at her and gathered the rest of the hunting gear. I retrieved the correct ammunition for the guns and got the two hunting knives that Dad also had and put them in the front of the car, just to be on the safe side. Lucy slid into the passenger seat and I continued scouring the garage. I found a fuel container and a stretchy tube that I could use to siphon gas when necessary. I put them in the back of the car as well and made my way to the garage door.

"Lucy, lock all the doors except the drivers door and turn on the engine please." I said to her. She nodded and caught the car keys that I threw to her, locked all the doors and left the drivers side door open. I pressed the garage door button and the door rised. The infected had increased in numbers and turned their attention to the rather loud garage door. I ran to the car and slammed the car door and locked it as I slid into the seat whilst the infected shuffle towards us.

"Ready?" I asked Lucy and she nodded in response. I put the car in reverse and pressed the gas pedal, knocking a few of the infected as the car moved out the garage. After driving out the garage, I changed the car gear and drove forward. We were lucky to avoid any more run ins with the infected, but I had no idea what to do next.

~

Currently, we were driving down the opposite side of the highway. Lucy was attempting to change the radio channel because all we were hearing was static whilst she shoved some crackers into her mouth, the only other noise in the car.

"What were those things that were snarling at us?" Lucy asked. I sighed heavily and loudly. I knew this question was going to arrive eventually.

"They're dead people." That was the best response I could think of, I was clueless.

"If they're dead, wouldn't they be lying down and not moving?"

"They should be but something has happened to them and the dead are coming back after getting infected, I assume."

"They aren't dead though. They're up and moving about."

"I know but they're not human. Something has happened, I don't know what and now, they're not technically alive. In reality, they're hollow bodies that eat humans." We both shuddered at the thought. It really wasn't a nice thing to think about at all.

"Where are we going?" Lucy asked.

"Honestly, I have no idea."

"Is this an adventure?"

"Yeah. Yeah, it's an adventure." I was both lying and telling the truth.
