~Alex's POV
"Do you have any idea where the nearest gas station is?" I asked Rian after we had gone down the path we came up yesterday.
"I think there's one on the other side of the highway. We need to cross over and continue walking." Rian and I backtracked to where we cleared the roadblocks yesterday and switched highways. We were lucky enough not to come in contact with any walkers and after walking almost a mile, we managed to find a gas station.
"It doesn't look too bad." Rian said as we examined the gas station.
"I think we may have been lucky with this one." I said as we cautiously stepped forward, checking our surroundings again.
"I don't think there's anything or anyone here. We should be fine." Rian said as he walked towards the nearest gas pump and started filling the gas can. I went to the ones on the other side of the station and we got enough fuel for the VW and some extra fuel just to be on the safe side.
"Done?" Rian asked as we both met in the middle.
"Want to check in there?" I said, pointing to the gas cafe.
"I don't know. We need to get back." Rian said, looking unsure.
"There may be some food and water in there. It's always good to have extra just in case." Rian sighed them muttered fine and we walked towards the cafe. We examined the main door, which had an unlocked chain draped over the handles.
"Maybe somebody was trying to get out?" Rian asked.
"Or someone was trying to get in." I took the chain off and I let it fall to the ground, making a small noise as it collided with the concrete. I pushed the door open and poked my head in, looking around.
"It looks safe." I said. I fully opened the door and walked in, Rian following me.
"What shld we do incase there is something here?" Rian asked.
"An escape plan?"
"Yeah, in case we get ambushed or something."
"We should have a meeting point."
"Where we switched highways? And just hide in one of the cars until the other person shows up?" I nodded in agreement and we walked around the cafe, rummaging through the kitchen in search for food.
"Ooh, poptarts." I oohed as I found the familiar food.
"Alex, really?" Rian said from behind me.
"Yeah..." I said, although it turned out more as a muffled sound from my mouth being filled with food. We managed to gather some food and some painkillers, which was pretty essential in our situation. As Rian and I picked up our fuel canisters and were about to head outside, we heard a car engine and the sound of a slamming door.
"People?" I asked. Rian looked through the window and we saw three militiary men with heavy artillary.
"Should we ask them for help?" I asked. Rian was about to respond before we saw one of the militiary guys pull out a girl from the back of their vehicle.
"Please, please." The girl pleaded, falling to the ground and sobbing.
"Tell me what happened!" The guy that appeared to be the boss shouted.
"I swear, I didn't do anything!" The girl cried.
"What do you think they're talking about?" Rian whispered to me.
"I have no idea." I replied and we turned our attention back to the militiary.
"I know you were involved, now tell me the truth!" The man shouted, leaning intowards the girl, spit exiting his mouth in fury.
