The Zombie Apocalypse (Zack Merrick/All Time Low)

Chapter 7

~Zack's POV

I felt something as I grabbed Nalah and helped her into the vehicle. It intensified as I fell on her when we fell into the VW. I wasn't sure what it was but it felt like... a spark. I only feel it when I'm near her. Could I possibly be getting a crush on her? Like? LOVE?

"Zack!" I'm snapped out of my thoughts by Rian clicking his fingers in front of my face.

"Yeah?"

"You alright? You seemed to wander off a bit and started daydreaming." Nalah said and smiled at me. I returned the smile and started at her. Even though we were all drenched in mud and blood, she still looked absolutely beautiful. Yep, I'm definitely starting to develop feelings for her.

~Nalah's POV

I watched Zack stare at me and I couldn't help but blush. Why did he keep staring at me? Did he think I was weird? Was he regretting saving me? My mind started overflowing with thought and ideas as they kept popping up in my head. When Zack wasn't staring at me, I was staring at him. He looked absolutely amazing. In general, he was adorable as hell. Wait, I couldn't get feelings for Zack. We're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse for fuck's sake. I couldn't get too attached, there's the risk that Zack could die and I would be heartbroken. Well, there goes the chances of a relationship being thrown out of the window.

"Are you alright?" I turn my head to see Jack staring at me through the mirror.

"What? Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little shocked, that's all." I replied.

"What about you, Zack?" Jack asked, diverting his attention from me to Zack.

"I'm alright." He said before turning away. Jack shrugged and focused on the road again, cautious when driving to prevent the chances of him running over walkers.

"So, are we still going to Baltimore?" Maggie asked, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, probably. You fine with that?" Alex said.

"Yeah, just as long I'm with a group, I'm fine." Maggie replied.

"Do you not have a family? Friends?" I asked in shock.

"My friends all went to their families when this broke out. My dad had gone to god knows where, found my mum with a gun wound through her head and my brother eating my sister. In general, I have no family." She whispered, sniffling as she finished speaking.

"Oh god, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have asked." I said and wrapped my arm around her.

"It's alright, you didn't know." She said and gave me a sad smile. I squeezed her shoulder and hugged her.

"What about you guys? What's your back story? Any girls on the scene?" Maggie asked, changing the subject.

"Alex goes out with a girl called Lisa, I have a girlfriend called Cassadee, Jack and Zack don't go out with anyone." Rian said.

"Our back story is we all met in high school, I hated Alex at first because he had bigger eyebrows than me, the two of us became friends, we met Rian then Zack, formed a band called All Time Low and became pretty popular. We were halfway through our Spring Fever Tour before this all happened." Jack said.

"What happened to the rest of the bands on the tour?" I asked.

"We have no idea. We searched for them but couldn't find anyone. We just got of there as soon as we could, got our rental camper van and started driving. We pulled up outside a hunting store and Rian found you and Lucy." Alex said, turning to me from the front seat.

"How long will it take to get to Baltimore by road?" Zack finally asked.

"It's normally a day to drive from California to Maryland but because of the situation we're in, wreckages we've come across as well as the undead, we're looking at maybe a week or more." Rian sighed. We all sighed and fell into another silence.

"Nal?" I heard my little sister yawn. She had fallen asleep on me and was stirring now.

"Where are we going?" She asked as she opened her eyes and started running them.

"We're going to Baltimore." I said, kissing the top of her head.

"Where's that?"

"Far away from home but Alex, Jack, Rian and Zack know where it is so we should get there easily enough."

"Why are we going there?"

"Alex, Jack, Rian and Zack are in a band called All Time Low. They were touring when this started and were at the other end of the country. They're trying to get back home to see if their family are ok and we're going with them." I said as I rubbed her back. Lucy nodded and leaned against me.

"Are those things going to get us?" She asked.

"I promise you, they won't get you." I said.

"Guys? Slight problem." Jack said.

"What is it?" Rian said as we all looked out the car window. We had advanced further down in the highway and we had come across the problem of there being road blocks. I swear to God, we can never catch a break.

"I heard that they had finished working here. If we're lucky enough, we can move this and drive through." I said. We all nodded, Jack turned off the engine and we all got out the VW after retrieving our weapons.

"Move the ones that you are able to and can lift. Ones that are too heavy, find an abandoned car that still has keys and use the car to push them out the way. Try and not injure yourselves too much, this isn't exactly the time." Rian said and we all nodded. I told Lucy to stay in the front of the VW and to beep the horn if she saw any walkers. Zack, Jack, Maggie and I started moving away the removable road blocks whilst Alex and Rian went to find cars to move the heavy road blocks.

"This is difficult." Maggie sighed as she moved the first road block. I nodded, sighed and helped Zack move another one.

"Thanks." He murmured as we moved it out of the way.

"No problem." I said back and we continued working. Alex found a convertible that could still be used and moved the rest of the road blocks after we moved the removable ones out of the way.

"It's going to be dark soon. What shall we do?" Jack asked after all of the road blocks had been moved.

"Drive further then pull over for the night." Zack suggested.

"About five people can sleep comfortably in the VW without it being too squashed. We can take turns for being on watch, go in pairs for safety and protecton." I said. Everyone agreed on the notion and we got back in the VW. Rian decided to drive this time, Maggie went in the passenger seat and the rest of us went in the back.

"We need to accquire some duvets and pillows." Alex said.

"I have a couple of sleeping bags in my stuff, that's a start." I said.

"We can find a couple of abandoned houses and get them out of there." Maggie suggested from the front of the VW. We agreed then heard screaming in the distance. I picked my head up and looked out the window.

"Ohh, what fresh hell is this?"
