Secrets

Jane woke up early the next day. She wasn't feeling nauseous anymore, she used to wake up every morning with nauseous and loss of appetite, but she was woozy and feeling a bit unsteady.

Jane took a bath, brushed her teeth, wore her baby blue skirt that reached to her knees, she tucked the white shirt neatly under her skirt, she adjusted the tie and left the baby blue, almond jacket unbuttoned, then wore her boots. She decided to let her brown hair flow on her shoulders. Jane put some milk for Tar who was enjoying his breakfast, took a toast and ran to get her results before going to school.

The young girl was waiting for five minutes, when she heard her name, she stood from her place with sweaty hands, she managed to open the door, Dr. Smith was sitting in his usual spot with her results in his hands, he ushered me to sit. ''Ms. Stevens, how are you feeling today? Did you throw up?''
''No!'' She answered.
''Do you have swelling in your legs or ankles?'' Dr asked while touching her ankle.
"Does it hurt you if I touch here?''

''Not that but I feel unsteady first thing in the morning'' Jane replied.

''Do you have a reduced amount of urine?'' Dr. Smith asked while going back to his seat.

"No, I usually feel a pain in my chest a bit nauseous but that's it, even today I woke up and the feeling was gone though I still feel unsteady, but you told me stress do that, right?'' Jane was shaking and she felt bad news was coming on the way.

"Ms. Smith, You have a kidney failure, your kidney is not working properly,''
Jane's heart was beating so fast, she didn't want to believe.

''The results show you have been ignoring your pain, you have to take some medications to slow down the progression, however your kidney is not severely damaged, we'll see after a while if you need a kidney transplant, but for now I have to see Mrs. Smith, I will reschedule another appointment, you have to inform your mom, time is valuable in such situations'' with that Jane left.

She wanted to cry, she was too young to die. She didn't want to go to school anymore, but skipping school would lead her trouble, her mother would eventually know, in addition, she will start asking questions and Jane wasn't ready.

Jane had blurry eyes, stumbling every step she took, she was now sitting on the school's bench. She was trying to compose herself, wiping her teary eyes, fixing her hair, Jane picked up her bag from the ground, she was on her way to her locker when the bell rang. She went straight to science class. She entered without knocking, all eyes were on her, "Nice of you to join us Ms. Smith'' Mr. Gregory folded his hands,''Go to your seat and next time knock the door or else you'll be getting a detention young lady''

Jane mumbled an apology, she found a place at the back to meet a familiar grey eyes that became wide then turned into a frown. Jane turned her back to sit down with her mind occupied with how she'll inform her mom, how her mom will afford paying for all the medicines and what about the surgery, when Jane didn't have insurance to cover all in the first place, all of these questions were roaming her head when she felt a tapping on her back. Jane wanted to turn her head, but she heard ''Ms. Smith, I asked you a question'' Mr. Gregory was waiting patiently.

Jane just looked at the board, she immediately knew what he was talking about. Science was always her favorite subject.

''Lime water'' she answered.

Mr. Gregory just nodded his head to write on the board. Jane at that moment wanted to look at William, she wanted to thank him, but she saw an irritated look on his face. She just turned away trying to concentrate on taking some notes.

As the bell rang, Jane was getting ready to pick up her bag, but she noticed that William was no where to be seen, she tried to comprehend how he passed without her noticing about it, her thoughts were soon ignored when her best friend Helen came rushing toward her.
