William was still staring in Jane's eyes, he asked never letting go of her hands, "Are you fine?"
The young girl was dumbfounded by what she saw. Was it even real? Was she fine? It was hard to tell. William's voice was persisting her to answer, "Jane, can you hear me?"
She wanted to nod her head, but as soon as she did that, her head spun as a spell of dizziness ran through her.
She could feel the fluffy pillow and a warm blanket covering her body.
"I told you I should explain, but no you wanted to explain things your way. Look what you've done, Jane is exhausted now," Phoenix scorned.
William raised a hand. "Phoenix, it's all your fault. So, you better be quiet and never talk unless someone's actually talking to you, or else I won't hesitate feeding you to that bear. I bet you would taste like chicken nuggets," William had a mischievous smirk on his lips.
"Did you just compare me to a chicken?" Phoenix was annoyed. He jumped on William who skillfully maneuvered his way for Phoenix to land on the sleeping figure. Jane woke up startled. She was about to scream, but Phoenix put his palm on her mouth. She had wide eyes and pushed the kitten for her to fall from the bed. William roared with laughter at the hilarious scene which made Jane glare at him.
He offered his hand to pull her off the ground. Her eyes darted to his hand, she slapped it away. He laughed again. "Ha.Ha. very funny," she put her hands on her hips.
"If you're done laughing, I need answers to my questions," Jane raised an eyebrow.
William's face became serious.
"Jane, ask me! What do you want to know?" William brought the chair closer to the bed where Jane was sitting while Phoenix was taking a nap. Jane thought how typical kittens did the darndest things to stay awake, just mark the sarcasm.
"I want to hear everything. I need to understand what's going on and what I've seen earlier. How did you do that?" Jane was really confused.
"My name's William White and currently you're in Galactivix."
"Galacti what?" Jane widened her eyes.
"Galactivix, and you're not on Earth," he confirmed.
"Shut up! You got to be kidding me," she covered her face in her palms.
"Why should I shut up? Nevermind,
Earth and it is weird language! Just listen without any interruptions, will you?""Fine, sorry, go on!" She motioned her fingers for him to proceed.
"Our land is located in another dimension. We travel through portals, not using airplanes or trains. However, we have other ways of transportation. Galactivix is similar to Earth but with some minor differences. For example, the atmosphere and gravity aren't even close to yours. People have gifts." Jane frowned at his last statement.
"In other words, on Earth you say magical powers or sixth sense"
"Oh!" Jane was trying to process all the info.
"I showed you what happened in the past and this is partly one of my gifts which is mind, but I'm still trying to figure out the rest. The incident you have seen is linked to my presence on Earth. I had to travel in order to find the golden compass. There are others who are searching for the golden compass. It's like a competition. The one who finds it first shall win the title of being a knight as well as other privileges. I'm a knight, however I will become the leader, and it is an honor. I'll be in charge of the King's affairs."
"Did you say king?" Jane was excited.
William shook his head in disbelieve, "I said curse, gifts, and knights and this what caught your attention."
Jane shrugged while William had a faint smile which was immediately replaced by a serious face.
"Jane, I'm on a mission and time is all I need. I only have 10 days!"
"So, where do I fit in all of this?" Jane asked. "You already know that I'm sick, I don't think I can help you." Jane lowered her face to look at the carpet.
"Jane you're not sick anymore," William asserted.
"How is it possible? I saw the results I'm going to die. I should take some medicines and probably a surgery, but I can't afford all of it..." Jane was rambling.
"Shh!!" William put his finger on Jane's lips. She was surprised by his touch. He saw her reaction and removed it. She thought he would move away to make some distance but he did the opposite. He moved closer.
"Jane, you're not sick. The reason behind your dizziness and becoming unconscious is the atmosphere on Earth." Jane wanted to open her lips to ask something, but William stopped her by raising his hand. "Let me finish. Phoenix or Tar, as you named him, has the gift of curing. He cured you. You're not sick, but you're tired because your body's trying to make a balance with the new system.
When Phoenix cured you, he accidentally changed you. You're not human anymore, you're one of us now."Jane walked outside the cottage followed by William. He was scared of how she was going to react. Jane knew she had to ask him more questions. She should ask him about her worried mother. She should ask him if she can return, but the news was hard on her. She decided to enjoy the twinkling, starry night. It was a sad night.
The young girl stared blankly into space, she needed fresh air. She had an awful sad stare of hopelessness. She made eye contact with William and started sobbing. Her tears burst forth like water from a dam, spilling down her face.
At that moment, William wanted to become the light to sooth her. He couldn't handle seeing her torn into pieces. He couldn't stop from taking her into his arms. It was a sorrowful hug, a tearful hug, a salty one, and she hugged him back. She cried in his chest until she fell asleep.
