Jane was tired as hell, but she knew deep down inside that she wasn't the same old Jane. With a lament feeling of her own burden, the young girl opened her long-closed eyes. She merely felt dead on the inside but subconsciously awake. Her energy was drained as if she leaked electricity. As Jane steadily succumbed to her surroundings, beige walls and a big portrait was hanging with its delicate frame leaving a shade of green and brown on the edges of the room. Her hand moved to her chest, and she could trace with her fingers the sorrowful pain of the arrow that left a scar on her chest.
Touching the floor with her bare feet, she checked her reflection in the mirror in the corner of the room, moving a hand in her long brown hair. She looked somehow different. The gleam in her eyes promised a bright future to come but was it possible? How could she feel positive? She was on the verge of death; flashes of the incident came rushing into her mind. She remembered crystal clear the attack and most importantly she recalls William. He was a ball of energy that sizzled all over the place.
She drew the curtains and stared at the prairie. Although it was dark, she had the urge to walk outside. The plain land was inviting her. It was a safe place, and she had nothing to worry about. However, the doubts were like a plague in her bones.
Steps were heard from a distance and the noise brought chills to her spine. She didn't muster the courage to turn her head, and her back was facing the door.
She could feel the fingers touch the dark cold metal handle, slipped over it, and then twisting it as a result she inhaled with the creaking of the door.
Her lashes swept up, blinking twice in return his brows furrowed as his mouth turned grim. Their eyes met and William couldn't believe his own eyes. She looked beautiful. She was breathing, standing, fully alive. She looked with the intensity unable to decipher what had happened. He moved closer and her fatigued legs were glued to the ground. The proximity ascended, and her heart pounded heavily. William's eyes locked on her like a magnet. She was alive and beautiful, too.
He stopped right in front of her only one step away to close the distance. His hand moved to touch the only place that hurt, but he refrained by holding her hand instead. She winced in pain. He opened his mouth to say something. Though his lips didn't move, Jane heard him pretty clearly. His face hardened in concentration.
"How are you feeling?" He shook his head. "You're definitely not fine. What was I thinking? What a stupid question!" He tightened his hold still Jane watching him.
"What did you say?" she asked her gaze fixed on his.
"I asked you how you were feeling though it was one dump question!" He explained.
"No, before that," She arched an eyebrow.
"What do you mean? I didn't say anything" however his thoughts were all over the place.
"Oh boy!" she walked away from him. She didn't know what was happening to her.
"What's wrong? Talk to me, Jane." He urged.
She swallowed, looking back and forth. "I heard you say I was alive and you couldn't believe your eyes."
With wide eyes, he stared back at the blushing girl who was dying of embarrassment. He somehow knew it all along that there was an inevitable connection between them that was bonded to occur.
"Jane, do know what that means?" He enquired, curiosity eating him from inside.
She shook her head, eyes cast to the floor.
His right hand rose to her hair, tucking the auburn wisps behind her ear. "I always felt a weird attraction to you. It's not because you're beautiful, but it is connected to the soul." His eyes moved to her lips, with his thumb, he touched her bottom lip. "I wonder what would happen if I kiss you now," he said eyes darkening.
As he drew closer, their beating became so hard. Jane's eyes closed and her head tilts upward his lips never touched hers rather they got in contact with her cheek. Jane's heart came to a halt. The spot of his kiss was fiery and tingled. Her cheeks were rose red. He left her dumbfounded.
With barely a whisper close to her ear, "You're a quest and I want to discover who you are."
