"Since I'm a witch, why I've never known this before?" Holding the portrait that had similar feature like hers, Jane wondered whether her mom knew about this.

"Did my mom know about it? But she would've told me, right? How could she do this to me? It is really unfair. Why do I feel empty and full at the same time?" Touching the thick carvings, she continued, "You were really pretty, and it was unfair for you to lose sacrifice for your beloved one. Nevertheless, if it were true, and you're really my ancestor then I feel proud."

"Why?" A voice startled her. She turned to look at Phoenix.

"Oh my God! You scared me," she put a hand on her heart.

"Hehe... sorry about that. Blame my animal instincts," he licked my finger.

"Don't lick me!" she glared.

"This is me saying sorry. Cats walk without making noise. I didn't mean to scare you," he pouted and looked adorable doing so.

"Fine! You're forgiven, but next time say something or make noise while entering." I scratched his head.

"I'll try. Now you didn't answer my question."

"Were you eavesdropping?" Jane put the portrait aside and held him on her lap.

"I just heard the last part."

"Well, so many questions are plaguing in my mind," she sighed.

"What you're feeling is normal, but you shouldn't feel upset, eventually you'll find out the answers to all your questions." He jumped into the garden and started chasing a butterfly. Jane laughed. I'll never get use to this -talking cat, she thought.

"Why are you sitting by yourself?" David sat on the bench next to her, held the portrait in his hand.

"Mighty my," he held her chin and observed the portrait again. This made Jane blush, and with wide eyes, she removed his hand.

"Umm, I know. I'm having a hard time comprehending all this recent info into my brain. It is like I need a new software to function properly," she laughed.

He frowned.

"By the way, I wanted to say thank you for what you did two nights ago. If it weren't for you, I would've been in prison. Those knights were searching for me. I-"

"You talk too much, human. I did nothing. I hate formalities. No thank you or sorry," he threw a pebble in the fountain.

"Hmm... I didn't mean to. I was trying to show my appreciation, and you're acting rude." she crossed her arms.

"Don't mind him, Jane. He has always been the rude one," James said.

David ignored him.

"He is just like that. You'll get used to him," he held Phoenix who was sleeping.

"Let's go back before sunset," David strolled away, but before he walking any further, he turned, "later I want to know what's a software?" He stared at Jane.

James stared between David and Jane. "Wow!" He mumbled in a low tone.

When David entered the cottage, James held Jane's wrist, stopping her from entering. "What did you do?" He asked.

"What do you mean?Do what?" She inquired.

"To David. He is always silent. Never initiates any conversation. Now he is asking you questions. This is good. Really good." He mumbled, leaving Jane standing at the door. "Get ready for the dinner. You'll find some clothes that were left by Gran," he shouted from inside.

"What just happened?" She cracked a laugh. She shook her head in confusion.

"Dinner is read. Everyone you're allowed to summon to the dinning room," Gran called from kitchen.

"Summon," she said to no one in particular. Looking at the mirror, she looked at her reflection. She wore a summer dress, nothing extravagant. Touching her brown hair that was somehow taller compared to when she first arrived, she decided on tying it.

Dining room was downstairs. She had to go through the long, dark corridor. Finding her way in this cottage was close to being in a labyrinth. Jane couldn't memorize the exact corridors. Every time she found someone to guide her while moving from one room to another. She found William leaning by the wall when she went out of her room.

He moved a hand in his hair. "You look beautiful."

"Thank you, you look nice too," she blushed.

"Gran summoned us, " he said.

"Yeah I heard her. She has one special way of calling," she smiled.

"Yeah, dinner is sacred," he nodded his head. "Ladies first." He bowed.

"Oh, thank you, your highness," Jane suppressed a smile. They stared at each other, then they laughed.

They entered together into the dinning room. Though they were in a cottage, the rooms were spacious. To say the least, the dinning room was grand. Jane was speechless. Two tall gold, candelabras commanded attention on the center of the mahogany table that took almost all the vast space of the room. Candle light radiated making the banquet visible to the eye.

"Take your seats," he said, sitting in the front.

For the first time, Jane felt at home. That night, they ate dinner, she never regretted help Phoenix or even leaving her mom, she did miss her though. However, she found something that was long lost inside her; a family...
