♡William and Jane had been walking in the forest for the passed couple of hours. Jane had lost track of time. William was climbing ahead of her, and her palms were becoming clammy. Her stomach was feeling strange. She stopped in her tracks.
Phoenix flew down beside her and asked, "Are you okay, Jane?"At the sound of Phoenix, William turned around and moved toward Jane. She looked at both of them. She was embarrassed what could she say. She was wearing a skirt, and it was hard to climb. She was staring at the sky and couldn't stand heights.
"I'm terrified of heights," Jane fiddled with her locket necklace. It is not about being in a high place. It is about the fall in this long way, the rocks below me and with no firm wall between me and the edge." Jane averted her eyes from William's. She made a mistake by looking down and found herself losing balance, two strong hands steadying her. She looked at the grey eyes, "Thank you," she managed to say weakly.
"Jane, everything's going to be fine. I promise." He held her hand. "Just don't look down."
She nodded.
William had explained to Jane that it was the only passage to reach the Sacred Lake. It was important for Jane to drink from its water, eat from its gardens and sleep in the meadows.
The climb was ascending steeply. Jane could feel the warmth coming from William's hand. She felt safe.
The jungle hugged the rocks from each side. She felt William jolted Jane out of complacency. She was forced to stop since they reached a dead end.
"This is a dangerous spot you know," she frowned while looking at a smirking William. He moved too close, their faces were inches away, his hand found her waist. He tightened his grip around her.
"Wh- "
Jane was interrupted by crashing sound. The ground beneath her opened, she slid backward inside a whole with William's arms circling her. She screamed and closed her eyes. Her breathing sped up and her heart pounded even faster, growing loud in her ears.
"You can open your eyes now," William said while chuckling. Was Jane dreaming? She blinked twice, then stared at William. Her arms were around his neck. He was carrying her in his arms. She tried to hide her blush. She cleared her throat, "Put me down, please"
Her boots touched the ground. "You knew about the fall, I was going to have a panic attack you jerk," she pushed his hard chest and walked away from him.
"You are going in the wrong direction," he smirked. Jane crossed her arms, not wanting to move. William's eyes were twinkling, and he had a smile plastered on his face. He pulled Jane by her arm to the right way.
