The tears were falling from my eyes shamelessly as I held the adoption papers high up in my hand so that my "mother" could see them.
"Will you please explain to me what this is?" I asked, my lower lip trembling. I never knew something like an insignificant bundle of papers that I ran into could shatter my heart into small pieces.
"Honey, it's not what it seem-" My mom tried to reason with me but I interuppted her before she could give me any false hopes that I actually was her daughter.
"Just stop faking." I said, my tone becoming surprisingly harsh.
My mom was taken by surprise. Her big blue eyes widened at my sudden change of attitude. I was never a "rebel". I had always listened to my parents and did whatever they had asked me to do.
Why would I fight with them anyways? They had given me all I could possibly ask for. My house was as big as five average sized houses combined. My dress wardrobe was the size of any normal girls room. My parents had more cars than the ones parked in my school on a normal day. I had been to more countries in a year than my friends could possibly even think of going to in a life-time and my monthly pocket money was way more than I ever even needed.
Most people confused me for being a stuck-up bitch because of all that I had possessed. But in fact, I never showed off on all of my possessions and many people loved me in my high-school. My parents were very pleased with me as well, because I never even dared to argue with them and always wore, ate, and behaved however my mom told me too.
"Elena, honey. I'm so so sorry. Your father and I were terribly lonely and we tried very hard to have a child but it just wasn't happening. We adopted you when you were only 50 days old and I can swear that we have always loved you." My mom said, assuringly.
Her words made me even more angry.
"What am I...some charity case?! Are they even alive? My real parents? Did they even love me?!" I asked, my voice getting higher and higher after every word.
"Honey please keep your volume low." My mom said, sternly.
"Why didn't you tell me? How could you do this to me? Where are my parents!?" I was screaming now.
"We are your parents Elena!" My mom shouted back. I took a second to observe her Christian Dior purple satin dress and her pearls that must've costed thousands of dollars.
"I hate you.... I hate all of you! It's like I don't even know you! Dad's never at home and you're always busy, either taking anti-depressent pills or telling me how to go with my life!" I shouted.
"I will not have you speak to me like this!" She warned.
"I don't need your permission on how to speak anymore, "mother" " I retorted back and stomped to my room.
The hot tears kept on dribbling on my cheeks and my vision was blurry as I ran upstairs and locked myself in my room.
"No more.. I can't do this no more." I murmured to myself and rushed to my closet, pulling out the bag which I had bought for my luggage when I was going on a vacation to Paris 2 months ago.
I threw a few dresses which I loved extremely, two pairs of jeans, three shirts, two pairs of shoes, my hair brush, tooth brush, toothpaste, iPod, head phones, charger, three hundred dollars, a lip gloss, mascara, and hair tyer in my bag and grabbed my favorite pillow in my hand. I glanced at the watch which showed the time as 11:17 PM.
I sneaked downstairs to check if mom was asleep. To my luck, she was. I went back upstairs and grabbed my bag and pillow, rushing out of the house and running sneakily through my lawn. I crossed my fingers hoping my guards wouldn't catch me. Suddenly a strong hand gripped my arm and spun me around.
"Where do you think you're going, Miss Elena?" My guard asked suspiciously.
"Firstly Marcus, you have no right to question me on my where abouts and more importantly, you can not spin me around so harshly like that. Now, I'm going to Ashley's house for a sleep-over. Mom has already approved. Do you still have a problem?" I asked sternly.
I hoped he would think I was telling the truth.
"M-my apologies miss. Of course I do not have a problem. Shall I call the driver to drive you there?" He asked, scared.
"No. She'll pick me up from the park nearby." I said quickly and ran off.
Ashley was my best-friend. I could trust her on anything but she was in Alaska with her family right now because her uncle was terribly ill. I only had one person to crash with... Colton.
He was my super hot boy friend. We had been dating since two years now. It was our final year and we had many plans on going to the same college, Harvard.
After 30 minutes of walking, I finally reached his house. It was pretty big, but still not as big as mine.
"Colton I need to crash here for-" I stopped mid-sentence. In front of me was the most disgusting scene of my life.
Colton was sprawled over his couch completely naked with a girl who was on top of him, she was naked too. They were kissing like there is no tomorrow.
Hot tears brimmed my eyes. Colton quickly threw the girl a blanket and threw some shorts on himself and made his way towards me. He looked like he was about to pass out after my sudden interference.
"Elena, baby I was just-" I cut him off by slapping him hard on his face. He looked at me in utter shock and was speechless.
"I'm glad I haven't slept with you yet, you ass hole. Enjoy with the slut you have over." I said bitterly and stalked off, with a bag and a pillow in my hand.
This was the most embarrassing position I could possibly ever put myself in. He probably thought I ran away from home and decided to live with him because he was the only one I had...which was true.
The tears escaped my eyes once again and I began sobbing lightly as I was running away from his house. He was calling my name but I ignored it completely.
Two fucking years. I thought to myself.
I kept on running and running, clueless of where to go now. In one day I had found out that I was adopted for 17 years and had also broke up with the boy I thought I would end up getting happily married to.
My feet were tired of running so I stopped at a double-crossing. The path to the right led back to my own home, where I could be safe and happy. While the path to the left led to the creepy and dark woods, where I would be very very very unsafe.
My brain racked on and on about which path to take for 5 minutes of extreme tension.
Am I kidding with myself? There is no way I'm going back to that hell-hole I once called my home.
So I took the left.
Dear creepy woods, you're my new home.
