Chapter 7

Dawn Pov.

It was around 2 am when I woke up. I heard a loud noise which caused me to jump. Ray started to yell about something which didn't surprise me and my mama yelled too. I heard another loud noise and immediately got out of bed.

I opened my door and peeked downstairs to see Ray straddling my mama. She was crying while he had a fist full of her hair.

"What did I tell you about disrespecting me?" He asked.

I looked around and saw a vase. I immediately grabbed it and walked towards him.

"Leave her alone." I said causing them both to look up at me.

"Lil girl go back to your room now."

"Once you let her go I will."

"I said do it now before I bust you upside yo head." He demanded.

"Dawn just go upstairs. I'm fine."

"Mommy--"

"Dawn, go upstairs." She said again. I looked at Ray and put the vase down. I went back to my room but I didn't go to sleep, I couldn't.

Is Chris awake?

Nah. I don't wanna bother him.

"Autumn, I don't have time for this."

"I was just asking. Why hang with her when you can hang with your girl?" She asked making me stop in my tracks.

"We're not together."

"Not yet."

"Okay, bye Autumn." I said going to lunch.

I met up with Trey and August outside and sat down. We usually don't eat here, but today we have to wait before we go, Ty was running late.

"Wassup with you and Autumn?" Trey asked.

"Nun. She think we a thing now just because I came over her house once."

"I hope you ain't did nun with her. You seen all them niggas she use to date?" August said.

"Yeah. We ain't did anything. I wanted to but she was like. I'm not that type of girl." I mocked in a girl's voice.

"So who the girl I saw you with the other day?"

"What girl?" I asked.

"Nigga I don't know her name."

"Oh! You talkin bout Dawn? She in that special ed class."

"The one with the twists in her head? I didn't know she was in that class." August said.

"Yeah, I'm her partner for the rest of the year."

"So you go with her?" Trey asked.

"No. We're friends."

Tyga finally came and sat with us.

"Where you been man?"

"Ms. Pilgrim was trippin. She said I was talkin too much in her class so she gave me this long lecture about paying attention." He said.

Once we found somewhere to eat, which was the cookout, we went in and got in line.

I didn't realize I was standing in front of the girl's bathroom until someone almost knocked me down trying to get out.

This made the boys laugh but I was still tryna figure out if who hit me with the door.

I moved aside to let her out. The girl mugged me and sashayed away.
