Dawn.
When we made it back home, surprisingly, my mom was there.
I wasn't scared or anything, she never really questioned my whereabouts after school before.
"You wanna stay out here for a while?" Chris said seeing my mom's car in the driveway.
"I'll go in..thanks for the road trip." I said.
"No problem baby girl. Just let me know if you need me." I nodded and got out the car, so did he.
"Remember what I talked to you about." He said giving me a hug.
"Yeah." We remained in that same position for a minute more before I finally spoke up.
"I have to go inside."
"If she starts acting funny, don't hesitate to come over." I nodded as he leaned in.
"I'm serious Dawn." He kissed me and finally let me go.
"I'll see you later." I said and entered the house.
My mom was sitting on the couch while doing paperwork.
"...hey." I spoke.
"Where'd you go during school? I got a call today saying you weren't there."
"...I was out with Chris." I can't lie to her, she's too intimidating.
"Why? You know better." She said getting up.
"My mind just wasn't in the right place with everything that's going on."
She bitterly laughed and shook her head.
"You think you're going through something? I wanted my husband back. He went to jail because of you!"
"He went to jail because he was abusive. To you and me."
"I loved him and I'm gonna get him out and we're gonna get married and live a happy--"
"What about me?" I asked.
"Don't get me wrong Dawn, I love you with all my heart, but I have to do what's best for me...and if that means keeping myself happy...then I have to marry him. I want you to be happy as well, when he gets out we'll discuss this conflict and we'll be a family again."
"We was never a family. And when he gets out, I won't be included with this "family", because I can't take seeing him put you through what you call happiness." I said.
"Then leave."
"Fine." I went straight to my room and closed the door.
I can live with my grandma and get a job. Living with her would be much better and would bring less stress.
I heard three knocks on my window before it opened.
"Hey did you talk to your mom?"
"Yes... I'm not staying here no more." I stated.
"Are you serious? She's picking him over you?"
"Unfortunately. I plan on staying with my grandma though."
"Oh that's cool then, she live 'round here?" I shifted my gaze elsewhere and sighed.
"No. She lives in Colorado..."
He was quiet for minute. His chin rested on his fist as he stared at me.
"You're kidding right?"
"Wish I was..."
"Dawn. You can't move all the way to Colorado." He said moving beside me.
"I have to. I don't know anyone on my dad's side and all my aunts and uncles are in Colorado as well."
