Dawn.
(4 months later)I quietly packed my things and placed them in my suitcase while my mom and Ray slept. It was 2 in the morning and I was nervous. Chris is currently outside waiting in the car.
I never thought I'd see myself doing this. When Ray went to jail, I thought it could be just me and my mom again. I guess it was my fault for thinking I'd actually have my mom back to myself again. She just proved to me that you can't trust everyone, not even your families sometimes.
Chris called my phone just as I got done packing my last suitcase.
"I'm coming down now just give me a minute."
"Do you need help?" He asked.
"Just come help me when I get out." He said okay and hung up.
Getting down the stairs was hard without making any noise. Once I got to the front door, I took one last look behind me and quickly exited.
As soon as he saw me, he rushed over and grabbed my bags.
"Are they up?"
"No. Let's hurry." He put my bags in the trunk and drove off.
"That was probably the most scariest thing I've ever done." I sighed.
"Welp, at least you got through it." I nodded and laid my head back. The past few months have been really hard on me.
Mom was a lot stricter. When Ray came back he wanted to go in "daddy mode" and try to spend time with me. I wasn't having it.
Ever since he got out, he put on this "changed man" act. My mom completely fell in love with it. I let him know from the jump that he wasn't fooling anybody but my mom.
"What you over there thinking about?"
"Everything."
"Still scared?" He asked.
"Yeah, you're legal. I'm not, I can get in trouble and so can you."
"You'll be 18 in a month, don't sweat it. After that, they can't do anything even if they find you."
"Okay." We pulled up at his apartment building and grabbed the bags.
"Why do you live all the way in the top floor?" I asked.
He shrugged and went a different route I usually took to get to his door.
"The stairs are this way." I said gesturing to the door on the left.
"And the elevator is this way."
"There's an elevator? Why didn't you tell me?" I complained, he shrugged once again and chuckled.
We got to his door and went in. His apartment was quite nice, he kept it pretty tidy.
"I know you're tired so we can gone ahead and sleep." I nodded and went to the room I usually slept in.
"My room--well our room is this way." He said.
"Where am I gonna sleep?"
"In the bed."
"Where are you going to sleep?"
"In the bed." He answered.
"Oh...okay." I awkwardly walked in his room and stood as he began to strip from his pants and shirt.
"Don't be shy, I ain't gon try anything...unless you want me too." He smirked and got comfortable in bed.
I reluctantly got in his bed and turned my back to him. A few moments after, I felt his arms wrap around my frame.
"Are you comfortable?" He asked.
"Y-yeah sure." He pecked my cheek and nuzzled his face in the crook of my neck.
"Cool, goodnight."
"Night."
.................I was woken by loud music and the smell of bacon. I checked the time and got up to use the bathroom. Instead of going straight to sleep last night like Chris did, I went into deep thought about a lot of things, such as the next school year, college, and my mom. Everything's just happening at once and I honestly think I'm handling it pretty well.
I brushed my teeth, put my hair up since it was kinda wild and went where Chris was.
He was in the kitchen dancing like an idiot while the bacon was burning. I turned the stove off and looked as he continued to rap with song in his own little world. It was cute.
Once he saw me, he smiled and turned the music off.
"Good morning sleeping beauty. Did you dream about me?"
"I wasn't able too, your music was too loud." I said and he laughed.
"What you standing over there for? Come show me some mornin lovin." He said as he sat on the counter.
I walked to where he was and wrapped my arms around his, making it so he couldn't move.
"I have to go to work in an hour so I have to get ready." I said.
"I think you need to quit." I pulled away and looked at him weirdly.
"Why? I can't quit."
"What if your mom goes there and see you?" He suggested.
"Hm, what happened to "I don't care about yo moms" and "don't worry about it." My mom doesn't eat fast food anyway so I'll be fine. Talk about switched roles."
"Talk about switched roles." He mocked and kissed me before he got down from the counter.
"Can you call in sick today? I have a day off and feel like being lazy with you."
"Aw, I'll see if they'll let me." I said skipping back to Chris' room to fetch my phone.
I called to see if I could have the day off and of course my manager didn't have a problem with it. She says I'm really nice, which I try to be with everyone.
"Dawn, get in here!" Chris called but I ignored him and began to unpack my suitcases.
"Nigga I know you heard me." He walked in on his phone.
"I'm unpacking."
He sat on the edge of the bed and smiled.
"Yo, this is crazy." He laughed.
"What?"
"Like we seriously on a whole notha' level of relationship goals." He said making me smile.
"I guess. You don't really see anyone at our school doing what we do."
"For real." I sat beside him and leaned my head on his shoulder.
"So...wanna play a game?"
The end❤️.
