God Knows Where I Would Be If You Hadn't Found Me

Midterms were in two days and Lilliana had yet to study for any of them. She wanted to put off studying for as long as possible. So when Aiden called her to ask to hang out that day, she accepted eagerly, thinking that they would be spending their time just talking and hanging out. Imagine her surprise when he showed up at her dorm room with a bunch of textbooks and his backpack. Lilliana's smile faltered when she opened up her door to her boyfriend. Aiden just continued smiling, leaning down to place a small peck on her forehead.

"Hey, Lils," he said, before looking briefly into her room. "Are you going to let me in or..." He trailed off, causing Lilliana to come to her senses and move to the side, allowing him to walk into her room. He placed his bag and the textbooks on her desk before looking back at his girlfriend, who's face had confusion written all over it. "What's wrong? Are you feeling okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," Lilliana replied, still astounded that Aiden actually wanted to study. "I just didn't think you would want to study when you called me." She laughed a little, as if it were a joke.

"Why wouldn't I want to study?" Aiden asked, completely serious. "We have midterms on Monday and we really need to get good grades if we want to be good psychologists." Both Lilliana and Aiden aspired to be psychologists after they graduate from university. They actually met in one of their main classes and they hit it off right away.

"Yeah, but studying is so boring!" Lilliana retaliated, pouting and stomping her feet as if she were a five year old.

Aiden chuckled. "Don't worry. I'll help you with whatever you get stuck on. Come on. Let's get to work." And with that, they started studying for their psychology midterm together, Aiden sitting at the desk and Lilliana sprawled out across her bed. They studied for what seemed like hours to Lilliana before she started getting bored of it. She felt her eyes beginning to close shut, but every time she put her head down on the bed, Aiden looked at her to make sure that she was actually doing her work. Very soon, Lilliana was fed up with the situation, so she decided to have a little study break.

She got up and walked over to her studious boyfriend who was completely immersed in his textbook and notes. Lilliana decided to risk it and sat on his lap before wrapping her arms around his neck. "Come on," she said. "Let's take a little break."

Aiden looked into her eyes, his facial expression staying exactly the same way it was a few seconds ago. "Can you please get off of me?" He asked, his voice quiet, as if it were the calm before the storm.

Lilliana did as she was asked, but as soon as was off him, she stood behind his chair and wrapped her arms around his neck again, lowering her torso and placing her chin on his shoulder. "Come on, Aiden," she whispered.

Aiden put his hands on the arms that were around his shoulders and Lilliana actually thought that he was going to agree to taking a break. But, to her disappointment, he just removed her arms from him and went back to reading his notes. Lilliana was so determined to stop studying that she decided to try one more time and tried sitting in his lap again. Except this time, Aiden got so angry that he pushed her off so hard that she fell on the ground with a loud thud.

"Can't you tell I'm trying to study?" He angrily asked her. "Unlike you, I actually care about my future." His tone was sharp and cold, unlike any other time he had ever spoken to her before. He just stared at Lilliana with an icy stare, as if he didn't care that he hurt his girlfriend and had pushed her onto the ground.

It took Lilliana a minute before she processed what had happened. Ugh, I am so stupid, she thought. I just don't know when to stop, do I? Lilliana completely blamed herself for pushing his buttons and trying to get him to do something he didn't want to do. She got up slowly, careful not to put too much pressure on the newly formed bruise on the outside of her thigh, and walked over to behind his chair once more. This time, she delicately placed her hands onto his shoulders, trying not to get him upset again. Lilliana started massaging his shoulders gently, trying to get him to relax.

Aiden was tense at first, but he soon began to sink into her touch. He sighed deeply, realizing what he had done just  a minute ago. "I'm sorry I pushed you off."

"It's okay," Lilliana replied in a whisper.

"No, it's not," he said firmly. "I hurt you, and I shouldn't have done that. I want you to know that I would never deliberately hurt you, okay? I only reacted the way I did because I'm stressed about this test and I just... I just didn't think properly. Please understand that," he said in a pleading tone.

"Aiden, don't worry," Lilliana said. "I completely understand. Besides, it was my fault. I pushed your buttons when I knew you were focused on studying. I'm sorry." She pressed a kiss to the top of his head.

Aiden sighed again, but in happiness this time. "I'm so lucky you're mine," he said. "God knows where I would be if you hadn't found me."

"I never want to find out," Lilliana said, coming around to face him and sit on his lap. She opened her arms and Aiden gladly embraced her, pulling her close to his chest. "And, thankfully, we never have to find out."

They sat in that chair for awhile before going back to studying for their midterms. This time, Lilliana did so without arguing, because she didn't want another problem with her boyfriend to arise. What happened was soon forgotten by Aiden but it still lingered in the back of Lilliana's mind. He had never acted that way before. But it was the first and last time that it would ever happen. He would never hurt me again, she thought, before going back to her textbook. Right?
