I Won't Take No For An Answer
To say that Maribel and Lilliana easily fell back into a comfortable friendship after everything that happened between the two of them was an incredible overstatement. The two girls could not have been more awkward together the day that Lilliana went over to Maribel's after two whole weeks of no contact with each other. As much as they tried, they couldn't really ignore what went down with Lilliana and her feelings. That doesn't mean they didn't try to ignore it, however.
The two of them talked about everything they had missed in each other's life for the past few weeks. Maribel desperately wanted to bring up the letter and how she felt, but she couldn't bring herself to do so. She finally got her best friend back, and she didn't know if she had the courage to risk losing her again.
"Yeah, Jason and Emilia are pregnant, so I'm going to be an aunt soon. I'm so excited!" Lilliana smiled cheerfully, filling in her best friend on the good news.
Maribel smiled back at Lils. "Oh, wow. They must be so happy. Tell them congratulations for me next time you talk to them."
They fell into a slightly uncomfortable silence before Lilliana finally addressed the elephant in the room.
"So," she said, taking a deep breath to prepare herself before asking her question, "how's Gracie doing?"
"Oh, um," Maribel struggled to find the words. She had no idea why she was so nervous to tell her this, but she was. "Gracie and I actually broke up a few days ago."
Lilliana felt her heartbeat speed up to maybe a hundred miles an hour. Then, out of nowhere, she becomes extremely angry. "You are so unbelievable, Maribel, I swear to god!"
Maribel was beyond confused at this. Shouldn't she be happy that Gracie and her were no longer together? That's what she had hoped. Had she read this whole thing going on wrong?
"I told you that I didn't expect anything from you when I told you. You shouldn't have broken up with her! You guys were literally perfect together. You and Gracie were so happy, I just don't understand how you could be so stupid to let something like that go!"
While Lils was going off on her rant, Maribel couldn't help but stare at the beauty that was her best friend. Her gorgeous eyes, so sparkly and doe-like and always giving away her emotions before she could. Her cute little nose, that she just wanted to boop all the time. Her perfectly chubby cheeks that she just wanted to bite because they looked so soft. Her plump lips that sat so prettily on her beautiful face. All Maribel could think about at that moment was kissing her. Oh my god, I want to kiss her. I want to kiss her. I want to kiss her. Fuck it, I'm going to kiss her.
Without giving it a second thought, Maribel closed what little distance there was between them and grabbed Lilliana's face with both of her hands, pulling her face in and placing very sweet and soft kiss on her lips.
Lilliana lost all ability to breathe, let alone form coherent thoughts. What the fuck is happening? Oh my god, she's kissing me! Before she had the chance to do anything, the softness that was pressed against her lips pulled away, leaving her confused and wanting more.
Maribel took a deep breath, trying to calm herself before speaking. "In the end, we weren't doing all that great. At least. I wasn't. To tell you the truth, Lils, you have occupied my mind pretty much every single day. Lilliana, I have been in love with you for the longest time now." She took hold of Lilliana's hands, rubbing little circles into her palms, knowing how much it calms her down.
Lilliana felt her heart swell up at what her best friend just confessed to her, but she tried to push it away. Something was bound to go wrong, she just knew it. "Maribel, I don't think you understand just how good Gracie was for you. She's a nice girl. She can make you happy."
"Lilliana, I promise that there is no one that can make as happy as you can," Maribel retaliated.
She decided to voice her fears instead, trying to scare Maribel as well. "Something is bound to go wrong with us. I mean, come on, it's you and I. We're both completely fucked up underneath everything."
"If things go wrong, I know we'll find a way to fix it." Maribel could tell that Lilliana had another excuse so she quickly shut her up by kissing her again. When she pulled away, she stared deeply into her eyes. "Lils, I'm not going to take no for an answer. You are my soulmate. Nothing is going to change that. Please, let's try this."
Lilliana felt the corners of her lips pull up into a smile. She let the happiness and fuzziness that Maribel brought her cloud her judgement and pulled her best friend in for another kiss. "You're my soulmate, too," she whispered against her lips.
When they pulled apart, they both fell against Maribel's bed, holding each other and staring up at the ceiling, high off of their love for one another. Both of their lips were swollen and their hearts were full and content. Lilliana looked at Maribel, drawing little hearts into her waist as she felt her heart begin to beat faster and faster. No one made her feel quite as amazing as Maribel could.
"Fine. Let's try this."
