Cause We Both Know A Break Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin

After countless hours of thinking and worrying for absolutely no reason at all, Maribel had finally decided that she truly wanted to be with Lilliana. She wanted to take the risk because she knew that the outcome would be worth it in the end. Lilliana was her soulmate, and they were absolutely meant for each other. They fit so perfectly despite all of their little differences.

Maribel hadn't thought this much about Lils since she first started to like her. She hadn't felt this way since she first realized how much she was actually in love with her best friend. At that moment, all she could think about was how she was going to tell Lilliana.

Holy shit, she had to tell Lilliana.

She hadn't quite processed that bit, and she started to freak out because she had no idea how she was going to tell Lilliana. It wasn't exactly the greatest to say "Oh, hey! By the way, I actually love you, too. I always have!" after ignoring someone for two weeks. It wasn't as simple as that. Maribel needed a plan. So she called the first person that popped into her head.

"Absolutely not," Gracie said immediately after listening to Maribel's plea.

"Please, Gracie," Maribel begged her ex girlfriend. "I need help! I had no one else to call."

Gracie sighed into the phone. "Maribel, listen. I love you, you know this. But we literally just broke up a few days ago and a break does exactly what it says on the tin. I would love us to be friends and all, and I'm happy that I'm the first one you can come to with a problem, but you have to understand that I need some space before anything."

Maribel frowned, knowing that Gracie was right. "I know, I'm sorry. I just don't know what to do."

The line went quiet for a bit before Gracie sighed for the second time. "Okay, okay. I'll help. When was the last time you talked to her?"

"Oh," Maribel said, and Gracie already knew the answer wasn't going to be good. "I actually haven't spoken to her in about two weeks. Not even after she sent me this really long text talking about how she felt."

"She wrote a love letter to you and you still didn't text her back?" Gracie screamed into the phone. "Oh my god, you are such an idiot."

"Hey! No need to be rude." Maribel pouted. She already knew she needed to talk to Lilliana, she just didn't know how.

"Text her right now. Please, before it's too late and she'll never want to talk to you again because you've made it too awkward."

"What do I even say?" Maribel asked, trying to stall.

"You could start by apologizing for ignoring her," Gracie retaliated.

"Damn, you're right," Maribel mumbled under her breath.

"After that, just see where the conversation goes. Chances are it's going to go well, and when it does, you're going to invite her over tomorrow. And then tomorrow, you're going to tell her."

"Oh my god, I have to tell her tomorrow," Maribel whispered, the anxiety settling in once again.

"Yeah, you are. Now text her and let me know what happens." Gracie hesitated for a split second before speaking again. "Actually, scratch that. Don't tell me. I think I'll be better off not knowing."

Maribel smiled sheepishly. She knew that she put Gracie in a tough position, but she was very grateful that she did decide to help. "Thank you, Gracie. I love you, okay."

Gracie sighed for the third time that night, the heartache being too much for her to handle. "I know. I love you more." She regretted saying that the second she did. "Okay, I'm going to go now. Goodnight. I hope everything goes well with Lilliana."

And with that, she hung up the phone and Maribel was left by herself to text the aforementioned girl. She drafted out what she was going to send over and over again, but nothing felt right. She just decided to go with the first thing she thought of before she lost her nerve.

Maribel

hey... I'm sorry for only texting you now

When her phone dinged almost 30 seconds later, Maribel's heart leaped. She hadn't expected Lilliana to respond to quickly.

Lils

no, it's okay, i understand. you needed space, there's nothing wrong with that

Maribel

still, it's not fair to you

especially after all of the wonderful things you wrote in that letter

Lils

oh

can we like not talk about that letter right now lol

i'm kind of embarrassed by it

let's just forget about it

Maribel frowned. But what if I don't want to forget about the letter.

Maribel

okay then consider it forgotten

Lils

great :)

i missed you

Maribel

then why don't you come over tomorrow

i missed your pretty face

As soon as she sent that, she questioned whether it was okay because she was crossing boundaries, but a part of her honestly didn't care because the only thought she had at that moment was that she needed to get her girl. But when it took a little longer for Lilliana to respond, she started to get nervous.

Lils

oh okay sure

what time were you thinking

Maribel beamed with joy as they made plans to meet up the next day. She was so excited she couldn't even fall asleep. She was finally about to be with her soulmate and she couldn't believe the happiness that spread through her entire body.

This is what being in love feels like, was the last thought that ran through her mind before she fell asleep.
