Cause I'm Sick of Losing Soulmates
Soft music poured through Maribel's speakers as she and Gracie lay on her bed, the soothing voice of Suran filling their ears as they relax into the mattress. It had been a long stressful week for the two girls and all they wanted to do was relax with each other in Gracie's apartment before the night was over. Gracie could feel her eyes start to close, completely relaxed and content with her brand new girlfriend laying next to her. Maribel, however, was nowhere near relaxed. The only thought that ran through her head was the idea that her best friend could be in potential danger. That's the only thing she's thought of since their last meeting. Lilliana hadn't called or texted or tried to meet up with her again, so Maribel had been in a constant state of worry over her best friend.
Gracie could sense that Maribel was stressing out and rolled over onto her side so that she was facing her girlfriend. Maribel was snapped out of her trance of distress and mirrored Gracie. Gracie saw a look of unease in her eyes and, almost immediately, her brows furrow together in worry.
"What's wrong?" She asked quietly bringing her hand up to push away the strands of hair that was falling into Maribel's face.
"It's nothing," Maribel replied in a hushed voice, trying not to break the ambience that the calm music was giving off. Gracie gave her a look that said she knew it was bullshit. "Seriously, everything's fine!"
"Maribel," Gracie said, her voice strong, showing that she knew Maribel was lying. She looked into her eyes and saw the stress that hid not-so-deep beneath the surface. Gracie didn't need to say another word and that was enough to break Maribel. Maribel let her cold exterior fall and frowned.
"To be honest, it's about Lilliana," Maribel said, slowly and quietly, as if to cushion the severity of the problem for her girlfriend. She mentioned briefly to Gracie that she had had feelings for her best friend before, but she didn't explain it any further. So when she does bring up Lilliana, she can't help but feel as if she's being disloyal to Gracie.
Little does she know that Gracie doesn't care about how she used to feel about Lilliana. She doesn't care about the previous feelings or who she had dated in the past. All she cared about was Maribel. And all she could see was that Maribel was hurting over her best friend. So she did what any good significant other would do.
"What's going on between you two? Did you two get into a fight?" She asked, the volume of her voice barely above a whisper, as if she were afraid that speaking louder would cause Maribel to have a breakdown. The last thing she wanted was her girlfriend in tears.
Thankfully, Maribel just shook her head. "No, we didn't get into a fight. I'm just," she sighed, not knowing how to put her terrifying thoughts into words. "I'm just worried about her."
"Why?"
Maribel didn't feel like spreading something about Lilliana's personal life that could very well be a rumor, so she told Gracie an extremely toned version of what she had come up with in her mind. "I just think that her boyfriend is not a good person."
"Do you know for sure?"
"Well, no not exactly-"
"Then why do you think that?"
Maribel was at a loss for words. She really did not know for sure whether Aiden was a bad guy or not. For all she knows, Lilliana could have been telling the truth. But she just got a bad feeling from the guy. "I just don't trust him, Gracie. I don't know how to explain it, I just don't."
"No, it's fine, I completely understand," Gracie replied, trying her best to be understanding and supportive.
"I just," Maribel stopped, scared to even utter the next words. "I'm just really sick of losing soulmates." She was hoping that Gracie hadn't heard what she had said considering her voice was barely audible.
But the music wasn't loud enough to mask what Maribel had said and Gracie had picked up every word. Gracie smiled a soft smile at her girlfriend and gently pressed her hand to her cheek. "Well, I can tell you one thing. You're definitely not going to lose me." She pressed a chaste kiss against Maribel's lips and then one on her forehead.
Maribel smiled, her heart beating way too fast than she'd like. She did not expect Gracie to be this amazing and is immensely happy that she had found someone that understood her so well. She intertwined her legs with Gracie's and let her body relax into the slender figure next to her. For the first time in awhile, she wasn't worrying about Lilliana. She wasn't worrying about anyone or anything. She was happy for the first time in a long time and it was such a marvelous feeling. She closed her eyes, letting every negative thought melt away. She fell asleep with the thought of her beautiful girlfriend and how she prayed everything would work out.
