Won't Be Alone Again

Lilliana had spent the past few days stuck in her thoughts. The only things she could think about was Maribel and Aiden. She wanted to break it off with Aiden, but she was absolutely terrified about how he was going to react. She wanted to deal with whatever she was feeling with Maribel, but she knew that her best friend was in a happy place right now and she didn't want to jeopardize that. Lilliana just wanted to do something, anything, so she didn't hate her life anymore.

So she decided to take a break up with Aiden.

Since the night of the immensely awkward dinner, Aiden had thought that they were back together for the most part. He had been following her around like a puppy dog around campus, always pestering her and clinging to her as if they were still dating. Lilliana had gotten completely annoyed and was so close to snapping.

One particular afternoon, she snapped.

Aiden had been following her around and texting her constantly all day and Lilliana had gotten kicked out of class because her phone rang while she was taking an exam. When she walked out of the building, she was met face to face with Aiden and she felt her blood boil.

"What the fuck is your problem?" She yelled at him. "I failed my exam because of you!"

Aiden was unbothered, clearly not seeing his faults. "All I did was call you because you haven't been returning my texts and I was worried."

"Aiden, I'm not texting you back because you're insane!"

He was taken aback. "Excuse me?"

"You're not a good person, Aiden," Lilliana's voice was coming down to a calmer tone. "Okay, you're just not good for me."

Aiden clenched and unclenched his jaw many times before he replied. "I don't understand. What are you getting at?"

Lilliana braced herself for the ugliness that was about to be unleashed. "I'm saying that we should take a break, Aiden."

Oh, Aiden was angry. He was fuming with anger and Lilliana was absolutely horrified about what he was going to do. But to both of their surprise, he did nothing.

"Okay," he said before calmly walking away.

Lilliana sighed. She was finally free of him. She was finally free of his physical and verbal abuse. She was finally able to move on with her life and focus on the people she truly cared about. Like Maribel. Maribel. Lilliana had to call her and let her know the good news. She knew that her best friend would be more than pleased to hear that she and Aiden had broken up. She immediately took her phone out and tried to call Maribel. Unfortunately, Maribel did not pick up.

"Hey, Maribel," Lilliana said after the beep, "I have some good news to share. Call me back soon, okay?"

She hung up the phone and continued on with her day as if she were walking on clouds. Lilliana was ecstatic. She hadn't felt that happy in awhile. She felt as if she were on top of the world and nothing could bring her down. The only thing bothering her, however, was the fact that Maribel hadn't called her back by the end of the day.

At around midnight, Lilliana still hadn't heard back from her and she was starting to feel upset. She assumed that Maribel was with her girlfriend and didn't think much of it. She just wanted her best friend to know that she was no longer affiliated with Aiden. She pushed the thought from her mind and decided to do her homework before she called it a night.

At around one in the morning, Lilliana's phone began to ring. She immediately answered, thinking that it was Maribel getting back to her. She was surprised to hear another voice on the other end.
