I Can Finally See You're As Fucked Up As Me

Maribel was past the point of worrying right now. She hadn't heard from her best friend in over a week and she was straight up freaking out. They hadn't gone that long without talking to each other. So as soon as she woke up, she went to her Lilliana's dorm room and knocked on the door. She was about to break the door open after a minute of no response when the door cracked open. Lilliana peered through the small opening, her eyes drenched with sleepiness. Once she saw it was Maribel, she opened the door fully to let her inside.

"God, Maribel," she said in between yawns, "why the fuck are you here so early in the morning?"

"Sorry, Lils," Maribel apologized quietly, taking in the sight of her best friend. She has dark circles worse than her own, the dark purple skin proving that Lilliana hadn't had a proper night's rest in a few days. Her physique was showing signs of neglect as well. Her collar bones were popping out, and her once chubby face was losing its fat. Lilliana looked at her best friend with a weird look.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Lilliana asked. Maribel didn't answer and instead pulled her in for a tight hug. Lilliana immediately melted into the hug. She wanted nothing more than a hug from her best friend and she loved that Maribel knew her so well to know that. Maribel's heart broke just seeing her best friend like that. It was normally Lilliana looking after a depressed Maribel, not the other way around. So seeing this was just strange and it brought on a feeling of uncertainty. Something was definitely wrong.

"I'm sorry for not texting you back," Lilliana broke the silence. "And for not answering your calls."

"Hey, don't apologize! I know more than anyone that sometimes you just need to be alone." She pulled back from the hug to look into her best friend's eyes. "Can you please tell me what's wrong?"

Lilliana contemplates telling her every single detail about what went wrong with Aiden, but decided against it. She opted for a simple explanation. "I think that Aiden and I are taking a break."

Maribel felt her heart flutter, but was instantly reminded that she now had a beautiful amazing girlfriend who was probably way better for her than Lilliana. She pushed her silly little crush to the back of her mind and smiled. "Good, I never really trusted him anyways."

Lilliana is extremely happy that she doesn't press the issue any further. She's glad that they can just leave it at that. "Hey, you wanna watch a movie?" She asks, trying to distract the both of them from thinking about Aiden.

And so they fire up the laptop, open up Netflix, and find the cheesiest movie they can, both of them wanting to be in a good mood. Maribel was smiling and making jokes the whole time. For the first time, she was the happy one. She knew she needed to be for Lilliana's sake. She needed to cheer up her best friend. But Lilliana couldn't care less about the corny movie in front of them. The only thing on her mind was Aiden. And Maribel could see this. But, again, she didn't want to force her best friend to answer questions she didn't want to answer.

Maribel didn't say anything to her best friend until she could see that her best friend sulking and looking beyond depressed. She laughs softly, making Lilliana turn towards her. She could see Lilliana's chocolate brown eyes glazed over with tears, causing her own eyes to tear up. Still, she smiled. Lilliana looked at her with a questioning look, as if asking why she was smiling at her pain.

"It's nothing," Maribel said. "I just finally realized that you're as fucked up as me." She laughs again, this time louder.

Lilliana cracks a smile. It was true. She was just as fucked up as her best friend and it was somehow fine. "Yeah, but at least we could be fucked up together."

Maribel's smile grew wider and Lilliana smiled back at her, feeling her heart start to heal after being with her best friend for only thirty three minutes. They both had messed up lives yet they somehow always found solace when they were together. Lilliana wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of her life in that moment.
