Lui stared at his desk, wanting nothing more than to bang his head against it and knock himself unconscious. At least it would be better than sitting in this class, listening to a lecture given to them by the most boring substitute he'd ever had. Mr. Collins needed to shut up and let them do work, but it's not like that was gonna happen anytime soon.
At one point, he'd really liked this class. He really had. But then his pregnant teacher had to actually give birth to her baby, and off she'd gone on maternity leave. She had made an effort to not give them an overly strict substitute, and there wasn't much wrong with the one the class had been given, but nobody could compare to Mrs. Urzana, and this man seemed so boring in comparison. Well, that and the fact that he was just plain old boring. If only he'd close his mouth, even if just for a minute or so, Lui was sure everyone in the class would be a little more relaxed and much less irritated.
Lui sighed in relief when Mr. Collins stopped talking for a moment, then he inwardly groaned and hit himself in the head with his hand when he started talking again. But this time he heard what he had said with amazing clarity.
"So, say, like... Oh, I don't know, say Lui and David were married, right?" Mr. Collins started again. He kept talking, but Lui's head whipped around to find this David kid. David's eyes find his, and they were locked in a gaze before Mr. Collins started talking a bit louder.
"So, one of the two, either Lui or David, will have to take on the role of taking care of the house. This is generally the female, as modern culture and stereotypes tend to agree, but since both are men they'd have to decide which will do which. Now, because Lui is shorter, most people will see him as the one designated to stay at home, as he'd be seen as the non-dominant in the relationship."
Lui looked back over to David, a blush on his face. When David made eye contact with him once again, he looked away.
I don't even know him. Why is the fact that Mr. Collins put us into a marriage making me blush so hard? I don't like him like that, I don't even know him! But he's attractive and he's really tall, and he looks really cute with those glasses on... Why?!
Lui felt relief wash over him as the class bell rung, finally, and he stood up. He heard someone up close, and they were right behind him.
"Well, I don't know about marriage, but how about a friendship? Possibly a date?" a voice Lui had only heard once or twice. He turned around to see David towering over him, a small smile on his face as he adjusted his glasses.
Lui blushed. "I'd be okay with that. I'm Lui Calibre."
"David Nagle."
