"Uh, I don't know! I don't know! Take a deep breath or something, yeah?"
"Take a deep breath?!" Evan shrieked in both pain and anger. "A BREATH!?"
Craig winced. "I'm sorry, I can't-"
"It feels like my insides are being ripped out of me, what do you mean take a breath?!"
"I mean BREATH!" Craig yelled, pressing his hands down harder as Evan writhed in pain, a noise of pain leaving him. He had been shot in the gut, twice, and the thing was, Craig had to take it out for the fear or the bullet having of been poisoned, and with the stretched open wound, Evan was having a difficult time.
"But it HURTS!" Evan screeched, Craig's hands pressing down harder, blood gushing up around his wound.
"Evan, I swear to god, please take a breath and listen to me. I need you to breath. You're going to be okay, I promise, but it won't hurt as much if you just breath. Stop moving, and breath. Please!"
Evan's breathing was raspy, but at least they were deeper than before. Both men calmed down a bit, neither was yelling at the other, but the tension was still there.
Craig was still worried, his hands shaking against Evan's stomach. He knew that someone, probably Brock, was coming to get them, but they were farther away than they were supposed to be, and that meant they'd be searched for. By the time they were found, there was a good chance Evan would be passed out.
Evan was still panicking, Craig knew that by the fact that there were tears in his eyes. He'd been shot before, he was the leader of a gang, for god's sakes, but the poisoned bullets he'd been hit with were new, and all he could feel was pain. It was taking everything not to let his body move under Craig.
"Craig," Evan hissed, "hand, hand, give me your hand."
"I," Craig paused, knowing he had to press down. "I have to keep my hands here. You're bleeding too much."
"Please."
Craig closed his eyes for a second, then he made the choice to do it. He moved his hand; it was covered in Evan's blood. Evan weakly grabbed his hand, and when Craig had to push down just a little bit harder onto Evan's gut, he could feel his hand protest at how hard Evans grip had become, but he didn't say a word.
"Craig," Evan whimpered. "Baby, it hurts so bad."
"I know."
Evan make this noise, like a mix between a sob and a cough, almost sounding like he was choking on the saliva in his mouth, and he swung his other hand over his body, holding onto Craig's hand like his entire life depended on it.
Craig could feel Evan's crushing grip, but he said nothing once more.
Eventually, Brock came. He brought some pain medication with him and was able to get something to wash the poison out of his system, but Evan wasn't able to take the pain relievers until the poison was completely out.
Brock drove back to the HQ. Craig sat in the back seat. Evan was bandaged and only had a pair of sweatpants on, which had been brought with Brock. He wasn't bloody anymore, Craig had managed to get most of it off while they were bandaging him on-site, but Craig himself still had some blood on his own clothes and his face, where a bullet had ripped off some skin on his cheek. It had stopped bleeding a while ago, but it was still red and raw.
Evan hadn't let go of Craig's left hand, and he was doing his best not to scream from pain in the backseat. The medication riding his body of the poison was painful, and he kept vomiting into a bucket. Every time he moved, his grip would grow tighter on Craig's hand. Craig wouldn't ever tell Evan, but he was all too aware of the pain coming from his own left pinky. Evan had squeezed so hard that he'd shifted it out of place. Craig didn't mind.
The thing was, Craig wouldn't ever tell Evan to let go, even if he'd knew he was going to hurt his pinky. He wouldn't have let go if Evan was gonna break his hand, either.
The arrived back at HQ and Craig picked up Evan, who's grip went from his hand to his shoulder, nails digging into his skin. They got him to his room, and Brock left them alone with instructions for Craig, so all Craig could do was wait for Evan to stop throwing up.
Craig guided Evan into his bathroom, sitting his down beside the toilet and letting him heave. He brought the pain relievers in with him, then filled a glass of water. He handed Evan the glass, who drank it, then Craig took it back and refilled it. He did this every time Evan gestured for more water. During this time, he managed to clean the blood off of himself and bandage his cheek.
Eventually, after Evan's heavy breathing had calmed down, and he had begun to throw up with longer time in between, Craig handed him the pain relievers and the glass once more, and Evan swallowed them down. He finished the glass of water, and sighed softly, leaning against the tub.
"Off to bed, yeah?" Craig asked. Evan nodded, and Craig helped him stand up. They walked over to Evan's bed, and Craig got him all tucked in.
Evan took a deep breath and sank into the mattress, looking much more comfortable than before. For just a moment, he flinched when he moved, but he relaxed his body, took another breath, and it looked like it had never happened.
"So, uh, I'm gonna go," Craig said, gesturing towards the door. He started walking away, thinking Evan probably just wanted to be alone.
"Craig," Evan rasped.
Craig paused and looked back to Evan.
"Can you stay? I don't... I... I, uh...." his voice trailed off, and he seemed nervous, although he didn't have a reason to be. They were dating, after all.
Craig nodded, walking back to Evan. He shed his shirt and his jeans. He pushed himself up and onto his bed, laying down next to Evan. He tucked his legs under the covers. Evan pulled him closer, wrapping his arms around Craig's waist so his back was to Evan's chest.
"Sleep, Ev," Craig muttered, turning his head to see the man looking at him. Evan sighed, leaning forwards and softly kissing the other.
"You should do the same, then. I can almost hear your mind whirling."
Craig snuggled further into Evan's chest, just laying in his arms until the both fell asleep.
