Chapter 29: The Phantom Thief Part 4

I was finally able to drag the boys away from Clara. We were walking down the streets in silent until we saw a newspaper man that grabbed everyone's attention. Ed walked up to the nearest person with a paper and spoke to him.

"What do you people buy into that junk? She's nothing but a thief who's feeding off the attention!" Edward said to the man.

"What are you talking about? We owe Siren for saving this place. Attentions the least we can give. She's Aquroya's Star of Hope." The man replied, earning a confused look from Ed and I.

"Sir, you're going to have to explain this to us." I said to him.

"We're the city of water. And we're sinking. By several feet a year." He said, making my eyes widen slightly. "Come see us in five years time and this whole city will be at the bottom of the lake. News like that isn't exactly good for the economy. When it went public anyone who could left. The rest of us...well...we got lonely and sad...that's when she appeared. Siren. Like a lit match on a fuse this city came to life. Reporters came from all over. Tourist flocked here for a chance to see her! Thanks to Siren, were all having on last bloom before we drown."

I looked down slightly. I didn't want to believe it, but...ugh! This is so confusing! We bided farewell to the man and walked down farther near the docks and sat down on the ledge of a stone pillar...thing?

"What do you think now, Brother? It kind of makes sense. Clara really did become a thief to save the city. For different reasons."

"Maybe. I think the only thing I can say is this." Edward replies, as I glanced at him. "She tricked me. The Fullmetal Alchemist, and she's at least going to pay for that."

I sighed. I looked up at the sun. A bird enters my vision as it flies away freely.

*LATE AT NIGHT*

I watched as Edward stood on the boat and waited for Siren. I kept ahold on the good on my head in hopes that it wouldn't slip off from the wind. I got down further and watched as Siren towed up towards him.

"I thought you'd show up." She said. "It's phenomenal isn't it? A date here. In the water. In the moonlight. Just the two of us. Oh dear, romance me with small talk. Yes, a thief. Someone with objects that don't belong to them. Like the philosophers stone?" I was biting down on my thumb, restraining myself from ripping this Bitches head off. She took off her mask and brushed some of her hair back with her slender fingers.

"Maybe so. It's funny. Every crook I meet wants to tell me how I'm just like them, but there's a big difference between us in the burdens we bare." Edward said, clutching his automail arm.

"Yes. Bare. Love to~"

Suddenly, Siren zips down her jumpsuit revealing her transformation tattoo. It began to glow as a wave of water striked down at Ed, causing his boat to smash. My eyes widened at the sight.

"ED!!!" I shouted before growling and leaping from the building and into the water. I clapped my hands and held them forward, feeling the water beneath my fingertips. I glared fiercely at Siren.

"You're gonna regret that, you bitch!" I spat at her, as I sent a wave at her. She looked shocked before she smirked and sent it back at me with massive force, causing me to fall in the water with the wind knocked out of me.

Ed's P.O.V.

I watched as (Y/N) got knocked over by the wave and fall into the water. She had blood flooding out of her mouth and she looked unconscious. My eyes widened before I grew angry. I clapped my hands and placed them on the ground under the water A gigantic hand began to transmute under Siren as it closed into a fist, trapping her. I smirked before I realized I was running out of air. I quickly grabbed onto (Y/N) and swam up to the surface.

I quickly placed her on her back and place my ear on her chest listening for a heartbeat.

'Ba-Bump...Ba-Bump...Ba-Bump'

I sighed in relief. She's still alive, but I noticed her breathing was shallow. I quickly but hesitantly began to perform CPR. I plugged her nose and placed my mouth on hers. I blew air into hers a for a couple of seconds and then began pumping my hands on her chest.

"(Y/N). Come on. Wake up, dammit!"

I repeat the cycle until I saw her face scrunch up as she turned onto her side cough out the water with a little bit of her blood mixing in. I placed my hand on her shoulder and turned her over a bit.

"(Y/N)! Are you okay?!" I asked, concern flooding into my face. Her half lidded eyes looked up at me.

"I'll be okay..." she said, slowly beginning to sit up with my assistance.

*Time Skip*

"That was pretty sharp, kid. You're gonna make a fine grown up someday. When you are let's do this deal again. It's always more fun with a woman and a man." She said to me, making me want to barf. "Though there is one more thing I want to give you before they take me away. About a certain funny stone? Go the the city of Xenotime and take a good look. I heard there was someone there researching the components behind it. Maybe he can help you out."

"Xenotime..." I whispered.

*TIME SKIP*
Al, (Y/N) and I all got a train to Xenotime. I was eating a bowl of ramen while Al was hunch over, folding his arms around his knees. (Y/N) fell asleep next to me, leaning her head on the window next to her. Al hadn't spoken to me since we got on the train and it was starting to bother me.

"Come on, Al. Are you still holding a grudge on me? I had no choice you know. I was the officer, she was the crook I had to-"

"That's not why, Ed..." He said. "It's true...she's not a crook. You've told me plenty of times that you can't always go by the rules or follow the norms when doing what's right. Clara. She's kind and giving and heroic. You think the same way, brother. I'm sure (Y/N) thinks the same too."

I looked down a bit. " I don't know, Al. When it comes to her, I guess I never will."
