1989
It had been a day since Helena broke up with Jordan, and it was already all around school. She had just gotten back from a long day in hell, and her phone was already ringing.
"Damn." Helena said as she picked up the phone.
"Pick up the phone God damnit!" She heard Kim say.
"Um, Kim?" She said, and Kimberly laughed.
"Oh, hey." Kimberly said.
"Hey." Helena deadpanned.
"So I found out some gossip that I think you'll be interested in. A tidbit of information you could store away in that big brain of yours." Kim said.
"Shoot." Helena said, interested in what she had to say.
"The mega bitch cheated on Joe, and apparantly Joe is pissed and devastated. Joe broke up with her. On the spot." Kim said.
"Really? Oh my God. Poor Joey, he must feel awful." Helena frowned.
"Yeah, yeah. that's what he gets for dating that Saturn bitch. Okay, but how did the break up with Jordan go? You didn't call me after." Kim asked.
"Sorry, I forgot. It went surprisingly well. Of course it was sad and all, but he didn't scream at me or anything." Helena said, and Kim hummed over the phone.
"That's good, did he cry?"
"Yes, he cried. Bye Kimberly."
"Nooo!" Kimberly whined as Helena hung up the phone.
Helena walked over to the window, and saw that Joe's window was open, and he was pacing around his room. Helena didn't know what she was doing, she felt like she wasn't in control of her body or her actions. She opened the window, and stuck her head through the window.
"Joey." She called. Joe whipped around, and was met with his old best friend. Helena saw his distressed face, and she felt a tug on her heartstrings.
"Helena." He said, and walked towards his window.
"I'm sorry." Is all she said.
"You heard?" He asked, not believing it went around that fast.
"My best friend is Kim, trust me, she knows everything." Helena slightly laughed, and Joe chuckled.
"Do you want me to come over? We can talk about it or I can help take your mind off of her." Helena asked, and Joe nodded. Helena crawled through her window, and onto the tree next to her. Joe watched as she walked over on the tree, and got out of the way as she plopped into his room.
"Wow, you're really bad at that." He laughed, and she playfully slapped his leg.
"I'm sorry I don't practice walking on trees!" Helena laughed. It soon became quiet, and they just stared at each other. They didn't feel awkward, but to another person it probably
would've been.
"We haven't talked in a long time." Helena said, and Joe looked to the floor.
"I'm sorry, Helena. I made a mistake. My priorities were out of whack. Instead of being your best friend, I dated Jennifer. And to make matters worse, I stopped talking to you, and I stopped going to the dinners. I'm God awful. I'm so sorry, Helly Belly." He ranted, and Helena's eyes filled with tears.
"It's okay, Joey, it really is." Helena said, and snapped the rubber band on her wrist.
"You're such a good person." He said softly.
"No, I'm not, really." Helena scooted towards Joey.
"You are." Joey said as he leaned in. Helena held her breath, but started leaning in as well. Their lips connected, and it felt...right. His lips were so soft, and they worked so well against Helena's.
Joey reluctantly pulled away, and giggled.
"Thank you for not rejecting me this time." Helena put her head in her hands, and laughed.
"I'm sorry about that, really, I am."
"It's fine! We were both dating at the time, it wasn't fair for Jennifer and Jordan. Even if Jennifer cheated on me." Joey shrugged, and Helena was immediately reminded of Jennifer. They just broke up, and now Joey was kissing Helena?
Am I just a rebound? Helena thought to herself.
