1989
It was New Year's Eve, usually a special time for Helena and Joe, but since Joe wasn't here, Helena had no interest in attending the McIntyre-Westbrook party. Actually, she had no intention of even being in the county on New Year's Eve.
It wasn't just New Year's Eve, it was Joe's seventeenth birthday, and Helena was going to see him today. His parents said that he'd be in Foxborough today, which was only a forty minute drive. She didn't understand why Mrs and Mr. McIntyre didn't want to see their son, but she didn't question it.
Currently, Helena was in her car (which she normally never drove because she's a horrible driver) driving on the highway, trying not to kill herself.
Helena took a panicked look at the exit that she had taken, and sighed in relief once she realised that it was the right exit. According to the written directions her mom gave her, she was only five minutes away from the stadium. Helena absentmindedly thought about Joe, but since she wasn't focused on driving, she was an inch away from ramming into the back of a Volvo.
"Oh my damn!" Helena whispered to herself.
After Helena calmed herself down, she realised that she was practically at the stadium. She took a turn into the parking lot, and parked near the tour buses.
Helena could feel excitement in her toes, as she locked her car. The cold air made Helena shiver, and she zipped up her large jacket. As she made her way up to the tour bus, she got stopped by a security guard.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, you can't enter this bus," He said, and she laughed awkwardly.
"Sorry, I'm Joey's girlfriend. Well, it's not official yet, but I really hope I'm about to make it official. To be fair though I am the one who-," Helena was cut off by a familiar voice.
"Helena?" She turned around, and was met with Jordan.
"Oh, hi, Jordan!" Helena walked over towards the tall boy, and gave him a friendly hug.
"I missed you, more than you can ever imagine. I'm so glad you're here. Speaking of which, what brings you down here anyways?" Jordan asked.
"Wait you know her?" The security guard asked, and Jordan nodded while smiling at Helena.
"Oh, I'm sorry, ma'am,"
"It's alright," Helena politely smiled at the man.
"Anyways I'm down here to surprise, Joey, it's his birthday, and I wanted to do something nice for him,"
"Oh," Jordan looked at the ground for a split second, "Well, Joey's in the stadium right now, so if you wanna come in there with me that's cool,"
Helena nodded, and started walking with Jordan.
"I'm seriously so glad you're here, Helena. I've missed you so much," Jordan said, and Helena giggled a bit.
"It's only been like two weeks. But I've missed you too. It's weird not having you all around," Helena explained, and Jordan smiled at her. Soon, they were inside the stadium, and it was huge. The amount of rows of seats were endless, and the stage was absolutely gigantic.
