1989

Helena was not very observant. Perhaps if she did not spend so much time staring at Joe, she would've noticed the crowd of girls following him around. His and his bandmates fame had seemed to grow overnight.

She had noticed Joe packing his things for a while now. It had floated around school that he was going on tour soon. He didn't even tell her.

"Helena, is Joey apart of a band?" Her mother had asked her. She stopped shovelling her dinner into her mouth, and she looked at her mother.

"Uh," Helena started, "Yeah. He's apart of a band called New Kids on the Block or something like that," She shoved the spoon full of rice into her mouth.

"Yes! I heard there music on the radio earlier today!" Helena looked at her mother in shock.

"Mother, are you lying to me?"

"No! I swear I heard Joe's voice! It was a very catchy song," Helena's mother smiled, and Helena rubbed her forehead in embarrassment.

"Mother, may I please be excused?" She asked, and her mom nodded. Helena put her dishes in the sink, and ran out her door. She jogged towards Joey's house, and knocked furiously on his front door.

The door soon opened, and a very sleepy Joe stood in the house.

"Helena, what are you doing here?" Joe asked, and Helena opened her mouth.

"Are you going on tour soon?" She asked, and he nodded slowly.

"Wow. I knew it would happen." Helena smiled  sadly.

"Knew what would happen?"

"You'd be mega famous. I knew it would happen."

Joe looked bewildered.

"You-you said that to me on the first day of school, didn't you?" Joe said while ushering Helena inside his home.

"I did," She confirmed, and Joe chuckled.

"When are you leaving?" Helena asked.

"A week. I'll be back in two months for a break, and then I'll be gone for another four months," Joe said. Helena's heart physically hurt.

"That's," She paused trying to find something to say, "That's a long time," She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, and cleared her throat.

"I'm gonna miss you," Joe blurted out.

"I-I'm gonna miss you too." Helena said, and Joe leaned in. Her eyes widened, and she started to lean in as well. Joe knew it was wrong, but in the moment he could care less. Helena, on the other hand, had guilt already eating her up. Their lips grazed each other, and as soon as they made contact, Helena pulled away quick.

"No," She opened the door, "We can't,"She left hurriedly, and slammed the door behind her.

God, did she want to kiss him.

But she couldn't. She was dating someone she didn't love, just to be distracted from Jennifer and Joe. It was wrong. She felt wrong.
