1989
Four months. It may seem long or it may pass by quickly, it all depends if you're honestly happy or not. For Helena, four months felt like four years. Helena forced herself to bury her feelings deep, and pretend she was okay with seeing her best friend make out with the one person she hates in the hallway. Soon he stopped talking to her, slowly, but surely. It was excruciating, and Helena couldn't do anything to stop it.
On top of all that, her dad came back, and after her mom got a black eye, she could've really used her best friend. But he was too busy cuddling up next to his girlfriend. Luckily, her dad was arrested, and Helena and her mother got a restraining order.
The only thing that happened to Helena that wasn't completely horrible, was that she got closer with Joey's other best friend, Jordan Knight. He was apart of their band, and Helena thought he was pretty cute. They started dating two months ago, and Helena thought she was happy. The feelings she had deep inside for Joey seemed to disintegrate when Jordan was with her, but she soon realised they were still there. Helena just loved the comfort, and she had mistaken kindness for love. It was a mistake she frequently made. Helena thought he was beautiful, but he wasn't Joey, and Helena knew that. Of course, Helena felt bad for dating him even though she knew she didn't have real feelings for him. She liked him, don't get her wrong, but it wasn't love, and Helena knew Jordan was searching for that.
"Babe, are you okay?" Jordan asked. Helena snapped out of her trance, and stared at her boyfriend.
"Uh, yeah, sorry babe," Helena muttered. The rest of the boys were staring at her as she moved around awkwardly on a loveseat in their manager's studio. Helena snapped the rubber band on her wrist multiple times, and it cracked loudly throughout the silent studio. Joe looked at Helena's wrist, knowing she only did that when she was nervous. Joe admired Helena, her beautiful green eyes sparkled when she was happy, her lips were always a beautiful shade of pink, and her hair was so soft looking that Joe sometimes just wanted to run his hair through her hair for hours. Jennifer put tons of hair spray in her hair, and it made it feel nasty. Joe hated touching Jennifer's hair.
"Okay so we're going to sing our new song now, it's called Step by Step. It was just finished like two days ago," Jordan laughed, "I hope you like it, babe," Jordan winked at his girlfriend, and then he signalled to the person behind the glass to start the music.
"Step by step, ooh baby, gonna get to you girl," They sang, and Helena's heart immediately melted. She heard Joey's voice, and she could've cried at how beautiful his voice sounded.
"Step four, I can give you more,"
