1989
Helena was not looking forward to the party. Kim knew she hated loud, crowded areas. Even though Helena knew she didn't have to show up to Kim's house and go to the party with her, Helena still felt forced to go. Oddly, she was kind of excited for a change of pace. Helena had only been to one party in her whole high school life. She just hoped nothing bad happened tonight.
Helena looked at the big clock that hung above the TV in her living room.
Helena sighed, "Time to get ready for this shitshow," Helena said as she stood up. She made her way to her room, and she opened up her closet doors.
What do you even wear to parties? Helena thought to herself.
She picked out three dress, and then nervously tried them on. She decided she liked the short, long-sleeved, black dress.
Helena looked in the mirror, satisfied with her appearance, "Not bad, Helena," She said to herself. Helena plugged in her straightner, and applied her makeup while she was waiting for it to heat up. It felt nice or whatever for her to get all dressed up and pretty, but a small part of her was wondering why she was even trying. Who was she trying to impress if Joe was gone? Helena would've liked to say that it was for herself and that it gave her self confidence or whatever, but to Helena, her looking "good" didn't change her shit mood one bit.
After Helena straightened her hair, she sprayed some perfume on, and put on her neon pink heels. She sighed, and grabbed her wrislet, which was already filled up with her keys, driver's license, and some lip gloss. Helena walked downstairs, and wrote a note for her mom, telling her that she was going to a party, and that she'd be home by 11. After that, she left her house, and drove to Kim's house.

Helena anxiously sat in Kim's car, doing breathing exercises.
"It's okay, Helena, you're okay, you're alright, nothing bad is going to happen tonight if you don't let it,"
Kim rolled her eyes, "Helena, what the hell? It's just a party,"
Helena looked at her best friend, "You're right, it's just a party! What am I so worried about?" Helena said, and she looked at the house that was holding the party. She watched as someone jumped out of a window on the second story, into a mattress that was on the lawn.
Helena's jaw dropped to the floor, "Nevermind, I'm scared to death," Helena did not feel like socialising with anyone tonight, or anyone ever again, until Joe came back.
Kim sighed, and she got out of the car, "C'mon Helena, it's not that bad," She said, and Helena whined nervously. She reluctantly opened the car door, and she slid out of the car.
Kim clapped sarcastically, "Good job, Helena, you got out of the car,"
Helena glared at Kim, and she started walking towards the party.
It was loud and absolutely packed, two things Helena despised. It also smelled like weed and alcohol, and was filled with teens inappropriately dancing.
"These kids need to stop that nasty behaviour," Helena commented, and Kim looked at her friend, not believing what came out of her mouth.
"Helena, you're a literal grandpa," Kim said while turning around, and pushing through the crowd of teens. Helena shrugged, and she followed Kim like a lost puppy. It was alright, so far, other than the fact she was in such close proximity with other people, she was literally sweating.
Suddenly, someone walked in front of Helena, and she lost Kim.
"Uh," She started. The boy in front of her looked Helena up and down, and he didn't even try to hide it. Helena thought he was okay-looking, but he was nothing compared to Joe.
"Hey, you're Helena Westbrook, right?" The boy asked, and then took a sip of whatever he was drinking. Helena hesitantly nodded, and he smiled at her.
"You're dating that McIntyre kid, he's famous," He said, and Helena raised her eyebrow.
"Um, it's complicated, and," She paused, "I know he's famous," Helena said awkwardly.
"Oh, so you're saying your single? Dang, McIntyre is losing his game," He said, and Helena looked around uncomfortably.
"Do you know him?" Helena asked.
The boy nodded, "Yeah, him and I used to play basketball together," He said.
"Oh," Helena said. She didn't really like the dude, Helena got a weird vibe from him, and he was clearly drunk.
"So, you want to fuck?" He asked, and Helena's jaw dropped for the second time tonight.
Helena shook her head furiously, "Dude, for one thing, I don't even know your name-"
He interrupted Helena, "My name is Aaron," He said, and Helena looked at him unbelievably.
"Okay, Aaron, as I was saying, I would never do that with you!" Helena exclaimed.
He put his hands up in defense, "Chill," He said, and Helena rolled her eyes. She walked away, desperatly trying to find Kim.
When Helena finally found her best friend, she was kissing a random girl against a wall. As if they could feel Helena's sudden presence, Kim opened the door to the room that was next to them, without pulling away from the kiss. They went in the room, and shut the door. It wasn't a surprise to her, though. Helena knew she was gay. She came out two years ago to Helena, and just about everyone else in the school as well. The only people that didn't know were Kim's parents, and she liked it that way. (Kim has homophobic rats for parents)
Helena smiled and she left the hallway. She walked through a crowd of people, for what seemed like the thousandth time tonight. Helena was bored as hell. She didn't know how, it was a party for God sakes, there was entertainment everywhere.
"God this party sucks," Helena muttered to herself. Suddenly, a beer bottle fell a few centimeters away from her, and crashed on the floor. Glass flew up, and almost cut her eye. She looked up to see a boy laughing with his friend, and Helena glared at them.
"Asswipes," Helena said. She gave them the middle finger, and she left the house.
God, she hated people.
