1989
"Joey is leaving tomorrow, and I have no idea what we are." Helena said to Kim as they walked down the hallway. She wanted to talk to Joe, but it seemed like he was permanently surrounded by a circle of girls swooning over him.
"El, just talk to him. I'm sure you guys can figure it out." Helena sighed.
"You're right. I'll try to talk to him next time I see him, if I can get through the gaggle of girls around him." She moved her head towards the girls talking to Joe as he walked down the hallway. Kimberly stopped walking, which made Helena do the same. Kim put her hands on Helena's shoulders, and looked in her eyes.
"Talk to him," Kimberly spoke seriously. Helena took a deep breath, but nodded anyways. She turned around, stood up straighter, and started walking towards Joe.
Helena pushed through girls, getting the occasional scoff, but she didn't care.
"Joe, we need to talk." Helena said firmly.
"Um, can we talk later? I'm a little busy." He said, and Helena shook her head furiously.
"We need to talk now." Joe raised an eyebrow, but nodded.
"Do you guys mind giving us some privacy?" Joe asked the girls around him. They soon disbanded, and Helena sighed contently.
"What did you want to talk about, Helly Belly?" Joe asked.
"We kissed yesterday, and you're leaving tomorrow. Do you see the problem here? What are we, Joey?" Helena bit her lip, nervous for Joe's response.
"We are," Joey paused, and held Helena's hands, "Whatever you want us to be. I would like us to be official, though."
"You're going on tour soon. I think, I think it's fine right now that we're just two people that like each other. Maybe when you come back," Helena sniffed, trying to hold back her tears,"Maybe we could be something."
Joe nodded solemnly, and let go of Helena's hands. He turned around, and walked away. Helena could tell he was upset. As much as she wanted to be Joe's girlfriend, she couldn't deal with the thought of being away from Joe for so long while dating him.
"Joey, please!" Helena called out to Joe, but he didn't turn around, he just kept walking.
"Aw, little Helena is sad." Helena turned around, and was met with Jennifer.
"Bite me." Helena spat, and Jennifer's face twisted with anger.
"Is that really how you want to talk to me, Helly Belly? You know I can ruin your life." Jennifer hissed.
"I'd like to see you try." Helena shot back, and Jennifer gasped.
Jennifer punched Helena, hard. Everyone in the hallway turned their attention to Helena and Jennifer. Where was Joe when Helena needed him? Helena cupped her right eye.
Holy shit.
"Don't fucking start a war with me, Helena, because I'll win." Jennifer growled, and stomped away. Kim ran over to Helena, and helped her stand up.
"Are you okay?" Kim asked, and Helena nodded her head, even though tears were rolling down her cheeks.
"Obviously you're not." Kim frowned, and Helena sobbed even more.
"I don't care about Jennifer. I care about Joe, and he just walked away from me." Helena cried, and Kim rubbed her shoulder sympathetically.
"You're not staying in school today. I'm driving you home." Kim pushed the doors to the school open, and they walked out of the horrid building.
LATER THAT DAY
It had been a few hours since Kim had dropped Helena off at her house, and Helena had spent most of her time crying and eating ice cream. It wasn't a very productive day for her.
A knock on the door interrupted her three hour long marathon of The Golden Girls. Helena lazily got up from the couch, and trudged towards the door. She swung open the door, and was surprised when she saw Joe, leaning against the doorframe. He looked extremely bothered by something.
"Joey, what're you doing here?"

anyway my ear is almost completely healed !! yay ! I still have to take my antibiotics for a while after my ear heals tho oop.
I HAVE A LOT OF NEW BOOK IDEAS FOR AFTER I FINISH JUST FRIENDS
but don't fret bc there are still like 10-15 chapters left of just friends !!
