It was the next day and there was still no sign of Kyle. I wasn't sure if he really was just sick or something else. It's not like him to miss a day, let alone two.
I did the same thing just like yesterday. In each class I copied extra notes for Kyle. During lunch Alex would come over and always try and get me to go out with him. Of course I'd say no.
Eventually it would come down to the time we'd go home. It was raining outside and I didn't have an umbrella. Although I was wearing a hoodie.
I quickly ran to Kyle's house in the rain with my hood up.
Once there, I knocked on his door.
There was no answer and just like yesterday, the door was unlocked.
I opened up the door and closed it behind me. I threw my book bag down by the door.
"Kyle?" I called his name throughout the house.
There was no answer.
I slowly went up to his room. "Kyle?" I called out again. Where was he...?
The brownies I had made him were eaten. There was only a trail of crumbs on his bed sheet.
"Dammit, Kyle! I know you're here!" I turned behind me to leave only to bump into the guy I was looking for.
"What's up?" Kyle asked me as if his absence meant nothing.
"What's up? Kyle, where were you?! You haven't been to school for the past few days and I came by yesterday and you weren't here..." I frowned. Did he think this was just a joke? Was it amusing to him?
"I just had to take care of a few things, Kate. Don't worry." Kyle smiled brightly, but I wasn't having any of it.
"I was worried about you. You know that, right?" I took a seat on his bed and he sat beside me.
"You know I wouldn't leave you unless it was against my will, Kate." Kyle sighed and looked at me. His mood turning from upset to playful.
"I loved those brownies by the way," He said with a bright smile again.
"Of course you did. You even left a trail." I shook my head. Kyle did have a way of changing the mood of the atmosphere.
"So...What did I miss at school?" Kyle asked me.
"What do you think?" I pursed my lips as he just sat there with a blank stare.
"Follow me," I sighed and went downstairs to retrieve my book bag.
"Why is the power out anyways?" I asked. It never occurred to me since it was day light, but since there was a thunderstorm today, it was dark in here.
"Pfft, the power isn't out. I just never turned on the lights." Kyle smirked and turned the lights on.
"You really are a creep," I said to him and grabbed my notes out of my bag that I had made him.
"But I'm you're creep, Kate." Kyle reached over and grabbed the papers in my hand.
"You could have asked nicely," I rolled my eyes at him.
Kyle leaned in and puckered his lips. "How about a kiss of gratitude?"
I swatted his face away while laughing, "In your dreams."
