I woke up to my alarm practically screaming at me. It took me every bone in my body not to throw that damn thing across my room. Can't I ever sleep in?! I screamed mentally, turning off the darn thing.

Groaning, I got up. I didn't want to be late and it was no use complaining.

Grabbing a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, a white t-shirt, and of course undergarments, I hurried putting them on.

I pushed my hair out next while putting it into a high pony tail. Then I did just simple makeup consisting of eyeliner and mascara. It's not like I'm trying to impress anyone anyways.

I grabbed my bag on my way out of my room after I was done.

"Hey, Mom." I kissed her on the cheek, taking a seat right across from her in the kitchen. In front of me were  chocolate chip pancakes.

"Aren't you going to have any?" I asked her while taking bites of the tasty breakfast. I normally have no time to eat but today it seemed I had plenty since I didn't take too long when getting ready for school.

"I already ate, thanks for asking." She smiled at me, drinking her coffee as well.

After finishing the food, I brushed my teeth, then headed out the door. I hugged my mom on the way out. You never know if something will happen, so I try to make every second count with her.

Today was bright and extremely warm as I ate my lunch outside. I wouldn't say it was hot though.

For my lunch today I had a sub sandwich the school made it along with store bought chips. I grabbed a small bag of Doritos out of the variety of flavors and kinds they had.

I took a bite into my sub and allowed my thoughts to run free.

I missed the good times I had with Kyle. Why can't Vampires and Slayers be friends? I used to hate vampires with a passion until Kyle came around. What changed...? I mean, Kyle showed me that there are good vampires out there. My own father got killed by one and the hate I had for them vanished. Of course I still hate them, but not all vampires are like the ones that killed my father.

My thoughts were interrupted when I felt eyes on me.

Turning my line of vision from my su- Oh. My sub is gone. I must have finished in while lost in my thoughts.

Anyways, I looked up to those eyes on me. Eyes... Kyle. I frowned my brows. Was he watching me? He wasn't looking at me, instead he was looking down at his phone. I wonder what he's looking at.

I hurried munching fastly on my Doritos. I didn't have long till the bell rings.

And just like that, the bell chimed five minutes later.

I sighed, getting up. At least I finished my chips in time. I might have choked on a few of them, but I'm still alive. So that's a plus.

Throwing my garage away, I hurried off to my last classes of the day.

"Hey, Kate! Wait up!" Called a fellow Slayer. I think her name was Taylor. She was a couple years older than me, but not too old and from Tennessee. She was my height, yet had blue eyes and blonde hair.

"What's up?" I asked, slowing down my pace to allow her to catch up. I came to the Cabin right after school and now we all were currently running, or jogging I suppose.

"Do ya mind if I run with ya? It gets lonely running alone..." She sighed, not from the running because we're used to it. But probably from feeling lonely all the time.

"I don't mind." I smiled at her and we jogged together, occasionally chatting here and there. Everyone was running full on. Most of us were jogging though. Jogging really helped with going far distances. If you ran you'd easily get winded since the path we were on we had to go from the Cabin to the lake and back around like five times.

Taylor and I became really close towards our fifth and last lap. Turns out we had a lot in common. It was nice having someone to talk to that isn't a guy or a vampire. It was also nice because she was close to my age and not old. No offense to old people of course.

"Jesus, that's a lot!" Taylor said, breathlessly while hunching over with her hands on her knees. Did I mention that we couldn't stop? If we did then we'd have to start all over and we wouldn't be allowed to leave till we got finished.

I agreed with her, being in the same position and all.

"Want to go get a bottle of water with me?" I asked her.

"Duh!" Her response made me laugh.

We went and grabbed some water to drink.

"What's your number?" Taylor asked me. I squealed on the inside. It made me excited that someone wanted to be my friend, let alone want my number. I know I hate people and having girl friends, but she seems really cool.

I gave it to her and she gave me hers. We took silly pictures of each other to use as avatars for each other's number.

It was getting late now. Taylor and I said our goodbyes and we headed off in different directions to our houses.

"Mom! I'm home!" I called, stepping inside throwing my shoes off.

"How'd it go?" She asked referring to my day. She worked while I was at school and up until now. It sucks that her hours are all over the place, but I suppose that's what you get when you want to be a nurse and you need the extra hours.

"I made a new friend..." I smiled more to myself. I couldn't tell her about the training, so I played it off as if Taylor went to my school.

"That's great, Sweetheart! I'm proud of you!" She hugged me and I hugged her back.

We ate dinner and I talked about my day. I left out the major details. Like the Cabin, being a Slayer, blah blah blah.

I told her I met Taylor in Gym while running and we traded numbers. So it wasn't like it was a total lie since me and Taylor we're running and traded numbers.

My mom tried to pick up my finished dinner when I stopped her. "I got it." I took her plate and started doing the dishes. "Oh thank you, Kate. You really are the best daughter in the world." My mom gushed at me yet I tried to say it wasn't a problem. She kept insisting saying it was very generous.

You see, she always has to work and never gets time to herself. So if you do one simple, kind thing for her she'll get extremely emotional.

After I was done I brushed my teeth, said goodnight to my mom, and headed off to bed after changing into my pajamas.
