I panted heavily. I was drenched in not only sweat, but also the pond water. I finally completed the course after 9 tries. I don't think anyone else completed it their first time. The first person done got it by their 5th try. The last person it took them around 11 times.

I sat down next to the Slayers around my age. We were drinking bottles after bottles. It was of course water. We also had a small healthy snack which was only a damn granola bar. I was starving but I could wait till I got home.

"Good work, people!" Angie called out to us.

After I had finished, I decided to go home. It was getting late anyways and my mom should be home.

I said my goodbyes for the day and took off into the night. I actually liked the training we had done this past few weeks. It helped me in all sorts of ways. Like physically. I'm sure I've gotten faster now, maybe even stronger.

"Mom, I'm home!" I yelled once inside.

She appeared around the corner with an apron on. "Hey, Kate. How was your day?" She asked as I made my way over to chair at the kitchen table.

"It was exhausting!" I sighed. She frowned her brows, probably expecting me to say it was great.

"Why? What happened?" She put down the sponge she was using to clean the dishes and sat across from me at the table.

"Well..." I thought back to what happened earlier today. Should I tell her about Kyle...? "Me and Kyle got into a fight." I didn't tell her he was a vampire. I don't think my mom would have handled that news.

My mom gasped dramatically. "Oh, honey! I'm sorry!"

I just nodded, not knowing what to say.

"I'm sure you two will work things out, Kate. Don't worry." She tried to reassure me. I shrugged at her positive attitude. If only it was that easy. I thought to myself.

"What's for dinner?" I changed the subject automatically.

"Probably hamburger and fries. Is that okay?" She got up and started pulling out the ingredients and food.

"Of course! I'm starving!" I whined. She laughed at me and I huffed.

I decided to distract myself until the food was ready.  Homework it is.

Pulling out my homework, I found a picture in my bag. It was an extra one, but much smaller than the original. It was of me and Kyle when we went to the Mall.

I sighed at the memory and put it back. This time I actually grabbed my homework.

~30 Minutes Later~

"ACK!" I screamed as the fry burnt my tongue. My mom on the other hand was chuckling at this. I bet you she planned this.

"I warned you it was hot." She held up her hands defensively.

That didn't stop me from giving her the stink eye though.

We ate our food in silence afterwards and was done in less than an hour. I helped my mom with the dishes and we watched a movie after.

"Do you work tomorrow?" I asked my mom halfway into the movie. I wasn't really paying attention to it anyways.

"I'm afraid so, Kate." She gave me a sad smile but I understand and nodded. I wish she didn't have to always work, but if she didn't then we'd probably be on the streets.

"It's getting late, mom. Goodnight, I love you." I hugged my mom while she mumbled she loved me too. I think she was glued on the movie more than me. I didn't mind though, it was better than being left with your thoughts.

I went up the stairs, book bag on my back.

Once in my room, I put my bag in its usual spot. Then went to the bathroom to brush my teeth which only took two minutes.

I yawned, exhausted from the day. I didn't even want to think about it.

I turned off my light and crawled into the covers on my bed. Sleep hit me in a blink of an eye.
