"It's been weeks." Dean says to Sam as they throw their bags in the trunk of the impala.
"I know Dean, but she needs her space." Sam replies as he gets in the passenger side door.
"We've given her enough space. She's stopped answering our calls and that's where I draw the line." Dean says as they start the drive to where Cas had told them she last was. They drove for about an hour and a half before they got to the place Jess was staying in. Dean marches up to the main door of the motel.
"Dean. Dean hold on." Sam tries to slow him down but it doesn't work.
Dean bursts into the motel which startles the guy working behind the front desk.
"Hi. I'm looking for a girl, brown curly hair, blue eyes, her names Jess." Dean says in an aggetated tone.
"Sorry buddy, I can't disclose any information about my guests."
"I wasn't asking." Dean threatens as Sam walks into the building.
"And I'm still not telling you."
"Hey, hey. I'm sorry about my brother. He's just worried about our sister. Jess. Anything you can tell us would be great."
"Listen, like I already told your brother, I can't disclose any information about my guests."
"Oh come on." Dean throws his arms in the air and turns towards the door. He puts his hands on his hips and looks at the floor. The door was glass and so he stood there looking out of it trying to calm himself down while Sam negotiated with the man. Dean was about to turn and yell at the guy, but just before he did he saw Jess coming out of one of the motel rooms.
"C'mon Sammy she's right there!" He says as he runs outside. "Jess!" He yells as he storms across the parkinglot to her. Jess was sitting on the ground just outside her door, playing on her phone. The second she heard Dean's voice she looked up and saw him only a couple feet away. She stood up and ran back in her room.
"Hey! Jess. Get back out here!" Dean was angry and was trying not to raise his voice to much. He got to the door and tried the handle; it was locked. He banged on the door. "Jess!".
Just on the otherside was Jess and Ben, the guy she had brought back to her place the night before. He was about to walk out the door when Jess came back in. She knew how it would look to Dean; that she had slept with him. Which she originally did intend to but she didn't because she knew she couldn't do that to Sam and Dean.
"What are you-" Ben starts to ask but Jess presses her hand against his mouth.
"Shhh. Be quiet. You need to leave out the back window. Now" Jess interrupts him. She starts shoving him.
"What's going on? Who's that guy out there?" Ben whispers as his body moves with how Jess is pushing it.
"No time to explain I just need you to leave right now." Jess says moving across the room to the window. Just as she is about to open it Dean kicks the door in.
"Jess you can't just run off and-" Dean's words come to end when he sees Ben and Jess by the window. Sam walks in behind him. They both wear the same look on their faces; betrayal and anger.
"Look guys I can explain."
"You were gone for weeks just to sleep around. That's all the explanation I need." Dean says as he turns to leave.
"No wait." Jess runs over and stands in front of them. "I didn't leave to sleep around. That is Ben and I did not sleep with him. I left because I hated how I felt and I didnt want to have to hide it anymore."
"You didn't need to hide anything. " Sam says.
"Yes I did. I couldn't tell you guys how I felt or even show it because I hated you." She said staring into Dean's eyes. "Dean I knew it wasn't really you who killed my brother's, I knew it. But my mind needed to blame someone and it chose you. And I hated you for it, but I couldn't show that because you didn't deserve it, so I left."
"Jess you-" Sam starts to talk but Jess cuts him off.
"No Sam. I needed to leave so that I could deal with it. I needed to be able to let it all out, without it hurting you guys anymore than it already had. So I'm sorry." Jess was at peace with her decision and understands if they are still angry.
"Why did you stop answering our calls?" Dean asks in a very monotone voice.
"I need a complete disconnect from you. I'm sorry if ut made you worry."
"Jess I understand why you did what you did but you can't just leave, and nkt expect us to come find you." Sam says as he goes to hug her. They embrace each other tight. Sam steps back and looks at Dean who has not stopped staring at Jess.
"Thank you." There is a long pause.
"Dean?" Jess breaks the silence.
"Who is he?" Dean asks throwing his thumb over his shoulder to gesture at Ben standing behind them.
"Oh. Right." Jess laughs, and walks back over to him, Sam and Dean turned to face fhem. "This is Ben. He uh....he was a guy I met at the bar last night. But we didn't do anything. Anything!" Jess emphasizes her last word to be sure that they understand what she is says.
"Wait you went to a bar?" This seems to be the only sentence that affected Sam.
"Yes. And I managed my alcohol don't worry."
"Alright." Sam lets out a little laugh. He was mad that Jess had left for so.long but now that he sees that she is doing well and did not sleep with random men, he is content. It's not so much the same for Dean. Dean trusts that she did not sleep with any men while away, but he hates that she left for so long. When she stopped answering his calls he thought that she was dead. He thought she had killed herself and he would have blamed himself for that.
"Dean?" Jess says as she walks over to him. She stands in front of him. They stare into each other's eyes. Jess knows what he felt. She knows what his mind went to and how he would never say it outloud. Instead of prying it out of him she hugs him. Without hesitation he embraces her back. She steps back. "So we good?" She looks back and forth between the two of them. Sam looks over at Dean.
"Ya. We good." Dean says with a smile.
"I don't know what just happened but I'm gonna go." Ben awkwardly says as he walks by them all. He makes eyecontact with Dean which makes him walk faster.
The drive home was filled with questions and laughs. By the time they got back home, all went back to normal; or at least as normal as it could be. Jess has stopped blaming Dean for her brother's deaths, but the same can't be said about Dean. He still blames himself for bringing her brother's into this life. He blames himself for the death of her family.
