I stared at the floor, discouraged about the news Liam was giving us. We gave too many hints, and the fans were realizing that we were together. We had to make it less obvious, if that was even possible. In public, it barely seemed as if we weren't annoyed with each other 99 percent of the time. I hated it.
"What do you mean, too obvious? I don't think that's possible," Harry said.
"According to Modest!, it is.'
"Why couldn't they just tell us? Why you?"
Liam looked at his phone and began to read, ". . .I am informing of this change because of the fact Harry and Louis would be upset. Although the appropriate thing to do is take it and tell them, we have chosen its better off if one of you do. So, boys, choose and tell them, as I know they will be upset. Also, its a matter of time, Liam, Zayn and Niall. With tour coming up, you will all have time to thoroughly explain the issue, as I won't. I'm sorry to put you in this position, boys. I am. . ."
My mouth dropped. Are you serious? Simon and Modest! were afraid of our reaction, so they made my mates do it!? You've got to be joking. Seriously.
"Wow," Harry said, then looked back at his phone to play Flappy Bird. He might've been quite obsessed. . .
"So, now what?" I asked.
"Well, you obey."
"And if I didn't want to?'
"Life isn't fair, Louis," Zayn said.
"Tell me about it. . ." Harry muttered. He was angrily staring at his screen, tapping it. His face showed hints - okay, streaks - of annoyance. I didn't blame him. That game was made by the devil.
"I don't understand? Are we supposed to act like we loathe each other's presence?"
Liam coughed, and scrolled up in the email once again. "I'm not sure. I'm very sorry, though, mate." He patted my back and left the room, leaving me both upset and outraged, alone in the middle of the floor.
"Maybe you two should call Simon." Now that was an idea. I looked at Harry, but he was still mesmerized by the game. I sighed, and went back into our room.
Seeing the sheets made me realize: the wash needed to be done already. Tiredly, I took the sheets off the bed and threw them only the floor, one by one. Then I picked them up and slung them over my shoulder before walking into the laundry section of the bus.
I set the washing machine to the setting that I needed, and watched the water slowly fill it. When it was halfway full, I put in the soap as the water came pouring out. Then I flung the sheets in. After the cycle started, I closed the lid and went back into my room, where Harry was laying on the sheetless bed, playing Flappy Bird again. "You're obsessed."
Without looking up from his phone, he replied, "I am not."
"Put it down then." I smirked.
"Never! I'm almost beating my high score," he whined. Bingo.
"Alright, Harry." I laid down next to him and turned on the TV. Some weird show I couldn't understand was on. I changed the channel. I picked up my phone.
"Do you know when Niall is going to be here?" He still didn't look up.
"Nope," I said, acting like Harry, not taking my eyes off my phone.
He threw his phone down in frustration, "I give up on this stupid, stupid game!" He crossed his arms and made a face. Aww.
"You're adorable, Harold. Let me try." I picked up his phone, then there was a knock on the door. There goes that. "Come in!" Liam appeared, holding his phone. He mouthed 'Simon', put the phone on the table and left. I sighed and retrieved. I put it on speaker and left it between Harry and I.
"Hello," I said, trying not to sound nervous.
"Boys," he said, "I assume someone told you."
"Yea. . ."
Harry's eyes became glossy. "Why," he asked.
"Look, I'm sorry, boys, but we can't have this."
"But -" I plainly stated, not sure what my argument was.
"No ifs, ands or buts. It is what it is. The fans. . . by the minute more and more are so-said shipping you two. We need to make them think you aren't."
"So what is they believe it? It can't confirm anything."
"They are figuring you out, Louis."
"Yea, and attempting to hiding it makes it worse." I began to cry. I'm tired of hiding and pretending to hate Harry.
"Louis, you have no say in this. I'm sorry."
"I can't believe this. its like we don't matter."
"I'm terribly sorry."
"Yea, bye, Simon." I angrily disconnected the call and hugged Harry, his tears soaking my shoulder. I did the same to him. As soon as I composed myself, Harry and I left to go give Liam his phone. There was a tell-tale sign of him knowing we weren't okay, because he was persistent and assuring us he knew we weren't. I decided to just tell him.
"Well, I mean. . ." Liam said, after a long fifteen minutes of explaining and tears.
"What?"
"The fact that you two are together could ruin our career." He looked at the floor, ashamed. He better be. I looked at Harry, who was staring straight ahead. I hit his arm, causing him to look at me. He moved his mouth, saying 'What the actual shit?'. I shook my head; I wasn't sure either.
"So we have to be miserable?" Harry's eyes burned into Liam's head. I didn't find it fair. All they care about is money. Not our happiness. Management starved us for a while a on a damn juice diet, and now they want Harry and I to be further torn apart. Their money counts, not our health or well-being and I hated it. We lied to ourselves and our fans everyday, and weren't allowed to do what we wanted half the time. They made us delete 'revealing' tweets, and we had this perfect-bloke image. Sure, I cared about our fan base, but not in this sick sense.
We should be allowed to love each other in public. The only place this can happen is my dreams, and in that case, everyone, please, don't wake me up. Ever.
I stormed off towards our room.
[A/N: Oooh, Louis gettin' sassy. Okay. So: I DON'T EDIT THESE THINGS SO DEAL WITH IT. Wattpad doesn't capitalize things at the beginning of the sentence automatically, and doesn't say some words are incorrect when they are not. Its not illegible, so please just hang in there. I try my best.]
