~2 years~
Elizabeth is now 11. Howl is 37. I closing in on 32. Since I left Howl's castle, I've had to take care of my nephew, look after my bookshop, and make decisions I never really made alone. I decided to get a new dog since Kenny died. This dog was with me everywhere I went. He's a German Shepard. His name is Scruff. when I adopted him from the local pet hospital, his scruff was a bit more puffy than others. He's still a bit of a pup, but he's growing up fast. I want to go back, but I don't know how the environment is with Elizabeth learning her magic.
Ever since mom left, I've learned to keep my emotions in check. Learn to repress them, like my father. He's let himself go. He's maintained a good build after two years, but he dearly misses mother. I find him weeks on end in his room, staring at the rings she left him. I decided to take matters into my own hands. Early one morning, I gathered some things and headed into town. I remember my mother's bookstore. I walked right in and it seemed there was the morning rush as always. I sneaked into the crowd and made my way upstairs. Her brother and in-law remember me well. I made it upstairs and see a new dog. Kenny must have died. I don't remember seeing him, but my mom has always told me stories. Marcus was sitting on the couch holding a baby. Jeff was in the kitchen heating up the baby's bottle.
"Jeff!"
Jeff turned around and stared at me. He made his way towards me and whispered real close, "Does you mom or dad know you're here?"
"No," I said with a blank slate look.
"You're mother is going to...I don't even know what she's going to do."
"Who's the baby?"
"Your cousin. His name is Sidney."
I walked over to the little squeamish baby. He was wriggling in Marcus's arms. I walk back downstairs to see the rush has depleted.
"Mother."
Her head turns towards me and utter shock is splayed across her face. She looks as if she should hug me or just stand there. She soon walked slowly towards the stair case.
"You've gotten so big."
"No thanks to you. Why did you leave?"
"I left because I couldn't stand your father—"
"How dare you speak of father like that! You haven't been around for two years and you still address him as 'father?' I want an answer mother!"
"Have some respect for your mother! I am giving you an answer. I left because I felt that environment was unsafe and unstable. As you can see, I am not a wizard. And being your mother, I had to talk some sense into Howl! Apparently it didn't work."
"You need to come home!"
She shook her head.
"You need to come home!" I repeated. "Father is depressed! He's been up in his room sulking! He's been staring at the rings you left ever since you walked out! He misses you!"
"I'm not going back."
"Fine."
I pushed her out of the way and was about to leave when I turned my head towards her.
"I'm disappointed to call you my mother." With that, I left.
I walked inside and made my way towards my father's room. He was still lying on the bed, rings still in his hand.
"Dad?"
"Yes, dear?" He asked softly.
"I talked to mom today."
"You did?"
"Yeah."
"How is she?"
"Fine. She had a nephew."
"I'm an uncle?"
"Looks like it."
For once in a few moths, he got out of bed. He walked past me and headed outside.
I made my way towards the town. I had to see Y/N and my nephew. I walked past the shop window and saw how happy Y/N was with Marcus and Jeff. She was holding our nephew as Jeff took over the business for a few hours. She disappeared upstairs with Marcus. I made my way into the store and headed towards Jeff.
"Good afternoon, sir," he said, his back facing me.
"Where is Y/N?"
Jeff turned towards me and almost dropped some books. I haven't really prettied myself up before I left. My hair was slick and greasy, some of the strands sticking to my face. I had a bit of a beard growing. My shirt and pants were stained with grease marks. I got into a state of depression that I didn't take care of myself.
"She's upstairs."
I walked towards the stairs and made my way up. I can hear her laugh. It was almost heartbreaking to hear her laugh. I walked into the room. Her smile was as radiant as ever. Her eyes beautiful like the sun. I missed her so much.
"Y/N?"
Her head turn towards me. She looked like she was going to burst into tears. She ran over to me and embraced me. Though I smelt like I was living in a lake of sweat and tears, she took in every moment. As well as I did. It was nice to hold her once more. She pulled away and looked at my eyes.
"It's been painful to stay away, Howl."
"I've wanted to see you everyday since you left."
She smiled. I always knew I had her heart swooning over me.
"Now, before I come back home," she began.
"Don't worry. I got this."
I waved my hand in front of my. Soon my clothes were replaced by nicer and cleaner ones. My hair looked as if I came out of the shower. My little beard had been shaved away and I soon smelled like a patch of roses. I hugged her once more and kissed her. Her lips were warm and smooth after all the time we've spent apart. She soon pulled away and looked lovingly into my eyes.
"Y/N,will you come back home to me? To Elizabeth?"
"I will."
I took off my necklace and took the rings off the chain. I took her hand and slipped them back onto her fingers. It was nice having my wife back again. It was time to bring her home.
