I looked at the numbers that were written down on the sticky note. I sighed as I reluctantly put it on my phone.

"Hey, Y/N? Are you still here?" Jeff asked.

"Yeah, I'm still here. It's not like I have anywhere to go," I chuckled as I placed the sticky note in my pocket.

"Well I know how you can be whenever business is slow," Jeff walked in with Marcus.

"Hi, Marcus," I said.

"Hello, Y/N."

"Where did you two go?"

"We finally decided it was time," Jeff said.

"Time? Time for what?"

"To tell dad."

"You actually told dad?" I asked standing up.

"We did."

"How did it go?"

"Not well."

I nodded my head, "Yeah. He seemed to be a bit more closed off ever since mom passed away."

"You know how he was always reserved no matter what topic it was."

"Yeah." I looked out the window. "Let me go talk to him."

"Do you think that's a good idea, Y/N?" Jeff asked.

"If there is one person who can talk some sense into him, it was mom. It has to be both of us now, Jeff."

"Good luck, Y/N."

"Don't do stupid shit while I'm gone," I said and grabbed my keys to the apartment. I grabbed a jacket and walked out the door.

I headed down towards the lobby and headed outside. I looked at the bustling street as it awaited me. I looked over to my left to see some people were carrying large bulks of wood. I ducked underneath it, made my way past a few people, and made it to the other side of the huge crowd.

"I've been doing this for too long," I whispered to myself as looked over at this one stall and grabbed something from it. I placed a few coins on the counter and bounded off to where my father lived.

He lived in a quiet area almost into the waste. It was a good life for him since there was a good community there for him if he ever needed someone and we were unable to get to him in time. He has made quite a few friends over the past few years of living there. But before I had walked over to his house, I entered the cemetery and walked down the path and stopped at a headstone that was adorned with flowers and other items. I knelt down and grabbed what I had bought at the stall. It was something my mother loved when we were kids. She always loved butterflies. And I had bought a small wooden butterfly. I placed it on her grave and smiled.

"I miss you, mom. I'm sure dad and Jeff miss you as well. You should have met Marcus. I think you would have loved him. I know dad isn't as open minded as you, but I think he'll come around to him. Anyways, I was just on my way to see dad. I hope to be back soon, mom," I said.

I stood up and walked out of the cemetery and headed towards my dad's. I reached his door and knocked. It took him a minute to open the door, but he seemed surprised I was there.

"Y/N! It's been a while since I've seen you," he smiled and hugged me. "How has my little girl been?"

"I've been well, dad. You?"

"I just had a visit from your brother and his significant other. Wait, don't tell me you're here because of that."

"What? No. I can't come by and visit you?"

He gave me the 'don't give me that' look.

"Yes," I said slowly. "Yes I am here because of that."

"Come on in," he said.

I walked inside and sat down.

"Would you like something to drink?"

"I'm good."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

He sat down across from me and rubbed his hands together.

"I know I am hard on your brother, but I feel like I have to be."

"Why feel that way?"

"So I can be the person to push him to do his best. I want him to do better than I ever could. When I heard he was working with Marcus and was with him, I knew he could do better than work at a fish market."

"He's the reason why we have fresh fish everyday at the market," I said.

"That can be Marcus' job. Not Jeff's."

"I know you expected Jeff to do more in life, but this was all he could find that was relatively close to not only me, but to you. He wanted to stay here because he was worried when you scared us that one time. He didn't want to leave in fear another episode would arise and I can't leave the book shop. I mean I know I can, but I wouldn't be able to get to you in a timely manner. Since Jeff is working with Marcus, he can leave the market and come here if you were to ever need either of us."

He nodded his head, "I guess you do have a point there, Y/N."

"Look I know you might not like Marcus."

"I never said that I did not like him."

"Y-You didn't?"

"Our conversation we had here today was more about their life choices. I said that it was his choice to be with Marcus or not. And what they plan on in the future. They don't have a plan and that is what I had gotten on Jeff about. Not Marcus. Jeff. I told him that in order to have a future, there needs to be a plan somewhere in there. He got upset with me and they left."

"You're not wrong."

"I think he was waiting for me to tell him that I approve of their relationship. While I neither approve nor disapprove, I will be there to support him because he is my son. And you are my daughter. I will do anything to make sure that both of you are safe and you are supported."

"Thanks, dad," I said.

"You can tell him that. And you can tell him that as of now, I approve of their relationship."

"I thought you said that you neither approved nor disapproved."

"That was when he had first met Marcus. I knew there was something going on when I would go see them at the market. I can always tell, Y/N. At the time, I did not approve because it goes against what I believe. But thinking back about your mother and how open minded she was, I decided that he needs to make his own decisions. And if he wants to be with a man, by all means it is his choice. Just as long as he is happy."

"I will tell him that."

"You best be on your way."

I hugged my father goodbye and headed out of the house. I walked down towards the market to get some things for dinner when I felt a strange presence behind me.
