His Heart

Chapter 12

I was sitting in the living room with my father while Elizabeth and Howl were playing with each other. I was very confused, was my daughter a wizard? Or is she half a wizard. My father must have known what was wrong, he could always sense when his children are either hurting or something's bothering them.

"What's bothering you, Y/N?"

"Father, what I saw earlier, I don't know if Elizabeth is a wizard or not?"

"Well, I'd assume she is a wizard, since Howl is a wizard."

"True, father."

"Why don't you have her tested?"

"Who is going to test her to see if she's magical?"

"You wouldn't like to hear this, but I think it's for the best."

"Father, if you're going to say her name, it's going to be a no."

"She'd be helpful though. Why don't you just try it, Y/N."

"Alright, father."

It was a few hours after my father left, and I was sitting in the bathroom, thinking about what my father suggested to me. Should I take Elizabeth to Madam Suliman? I heard a knock at the door and almost jumped into the shower.

"Y/N, are you in there?"

"Yeah."

"May I come in?"

I walked over and unlocked the door. I opened it up and Howl, without warning, brought me into a tight hug. His head was against my shoulder, and my head was buried in his.

"I'm sorry about the way I acted in front of Elizabeth. She acted so brave to stand up against my demon. I could just see the terror in your face when I crashed down onto you. Y/N, I'm really sorry."

"Apology accepted, Howl. And don't be sorry, I know it was Madam Suliman who made you be that way."

"One more thing."

"Yes?"

"She's a wizard."

"Suliman?"

"Yes."

"Oh great."

We stood there in silence for a few minutes, until I had to break the silence.

"Howl?"

"Yes?"

"Do you think Elizabeth is a wizard?"

"I don't think. I know she is."

"What?"

"Ever since we had your five month check-up, and I was handed the ultrasound and the doctors thought she had a disease. I looked it over one night, and saw that it wasn't a disease, but magical matter."

I looked at Howl, very confused at the words that he just spat out.

"What I mean by that is, there is magical matter inside of her."

"Can she learn to control it?"

"At the moment, no."

"Then train her how."

"Me, I barely finished mine!"

"Then I don't know what to do then, Howl!"

Elizabeth came into the bathroom at this point, wondering why we were having a heated argument. I walked over to her and picked her up. I turned to look at Howl.

"Then find someone to train you."

I left without another word. That night was very uncomfortable with Howl. I couldn't sleep, having a lot on my mind. In the early morning, I got my things ready and went outside. I walked down to the town to get my shop open and ready for the day.

It was around five when I came home. Elizabeth was being watched by Markl and Lucy. She was very happy to see me return from work. She came running over towards me, a wide smile on her face. I picked her up, and spun her around in midair. Then touching her forehead with mine, I held her close to my body once more. I turned my attention to Markl and Lucy.

"Where's Howl?"

"Umm, ever since that argument you guys had, he left."

"How long has he been gone?"

"The entire day."

"The entire day?"

"Yeah. He came down here around 8 in the morning, telling Lucy and I that we needed to watch over Elizabeth."

"Oh, thank you, Markl and Lucy."

I set Elizabeth down, wondering where Howl could have gone.

It was a mistake to come here. Suliman had me do my normal things with my magic when I first started. For all I knew, I could have found a more advanced wizard at my level to help me. But my instincts led me back to her. At first she was surprised when I came back to her. It wasn't easy explaining this to her, but it'd be harder to explain this to Y/N when I would get back home. Which is to be known to me, I don't know when I would be getting home.

~5 years later~

It's been five years since I last saw Howl. I was told by Markl that he'd leave for months, but this was five years! Elizabeth is now 6, and Howl has been absent for her many birthday parties, many Chirstmas, and even Markl's own wedding with Lucy. It was nice to see Markl and Lucy get together, but since they moved out of the castle, it's been lonely and quiet. The only thing Elizabeth has experienced as a father figure, was my father, Markl, and Calcifer. It wasn't easy to take care of her on my own. There have been some ups and downs, but with Markl and Lucy, I've managed the work load. It wasn't until one day at the store, I was with Elizabeth, and we were restocking the books into their normal shelves. She started to levitate the books on her own, and she had complete control over them.

"That's a talented daughter you got there," called a voice.

"Thanks."

"Reminds me of someone."

"Who's that?"

"Your lover."

I looked up to my amazement, to see Howl standing there. Elizabeth turned her head and smile and ran over to Howl.

"Daddy!"

Though being gone for 5 years, Elizabeth remembers her father well. Tears brimmed in my eyes as I ran over to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and with his one arm, he wrapped his around my waist. I looked up at him and pressed my lips against his. Elizabeth mimicked a gagging sound and turned away. We both laughed. I was glad to see my husband once again.
