Chapter eight

Julia had just gotten the call from Sara. She thought that Sara sounded sick and planned to surprise her at home. Julia called her assistant.

"Hey Hollie, can you order me two chicken soup specials from the café downstairs. Thank you."

Julia couldn't wait. Tonight she planned on making it official with Sara. It had been so long since she felt like this. Her excitement was uncontrollable.

Sara washed her face and iced it to recover from Dominique's blow. she put on sweats and a t-shirt. She say in front of the tv wondering how she ever got involved with someone like Dominique. Sara was dozing off when she heard a knock on the door.

"Who is it?"

"Julia, I brought you something."

Sara felt the tears start to trickle down her face stinging the cut under her eye. She felt terrible and didn't want Julia to see her this way. But, before she had the the chance to say something, Julia opened the door.

Julia had remembered the key Sara kept under a frog on her window ledge. She opened the door. As she looked up she saw Sara. Her face was swollen and covered in tears.

"What happened to you?"

"It's nothing. I just had a accident."

"That is no accident. What happened?"

Sara could hear the demanding in Julia's voice.

"Ok. There is something I've been meaning to tell you."

Julia sat down waiting on Sara to explain who hit her.

"There is this ex I dated in college. She was so sweet at first, then I caught her cheating. I ran but she caught me and beat me in the bathroom of the dorm. It was the first time she has ever hit me. From then on it's been an on off thing. She beats me into being with her then leaves for months to years at a time."

Julia felt her heart break. She hugged Sara feeling her sob more. Julia lifted her head and looked at Sara.

"She will pay. I will make sure of it."

"How, I've tried everything. She just won't go away."

"You let me worry about it. I will make it so she never returns."

Julia walked Sara to her bed and cuddled her. She knew tomorrow would bring a day of work.

Sara felt the warmth of Julia's body and knew for now she was safe. She had no idea how Julia would fix it but for the first time, she trusted someone.
