I sat at the table with my head down. It was still so early, I hadn't had any sleep at all. I was up all night listening to Kaname. Father still wasn't up yet either and he's always up before us. I looked at my watch. It was basically 6:00 in the morning. I just rested my head on the hard table with my eyes closed. Maybe if I did that much I wouldn't feel too bad.
I just rested my head and concentrated my breathing to a calm state. A little while went by of me sitting alone in the dinning room until I heard footsteps. I felt so relaxed at the moment I didn't bother looking to see who it was.
"(y/n)..." The quite male voice spoke my name. I knew who it was but, I didn't feel obliged to greet him. "Idiot, you shouldn't sleep like that, you'll get a bad back." I heard him approaching but I didn't move. "Come on." I felt a hand on my shoulder and it lightly shook me.
"I'm awake you know." I stated blandly. "Don't touch me." I spat swatting his hand away, my head still down.
"(y/n), look."
"You don't have to apologise Zero it's fine." I raised my head to find a remorseful face. "I guess things have just been bugging me more lately because I haven't been sleeping well. It's fine, really." I smiled calmly even though deep down I wish I wasn't a vampire. The only reason I could accept it now was because there was a chance that I could help him.
"How long have you been down here?"
I looked at my watch briefly before answering. "About an hour."
"So how long have you not been getting any sleep?" He sat on the other side of the table.
I groaned. "I don't know." I yawned and stretched before Father walked in.
"Oh, good morning you two. You're both up early."
I smiled sleepily. "Morning Father."
"Dear me (y/n) you look like you haven't had a wink of sleep! Are you alright? You're not sick are you."
"No, you had it right the first time"
"This is no good (y/n), I can barely remember the last time I found you up and refreshed after a night of rest. This has been going on for too long, What if I let you take a break from your duties as a guardian, do you think that would help at all?"
"No, I'm afraid it has nothing to do with that." I sighed.
"Well something has to happen. Why don't you take the day off today and try and get some rest?"
"Oh no I'm fine, really. I'm kind of used to feeling like this now. Besides, seeing as how mad Zero was yesterday when he found me asleep under the tree, I take it he and Yuki can't quite handle everything alone."
"Can too."
"Can't."
"Can!"
"Then why were you so mad?"
"Because you were neglecting your responsibilities." Zero hissed.
Father laughed. "Oh Zero, she's not the only one."
"That's what I said." I yawned again and father left to go into the kitchen.
"That's not the only reason." I heard Zero mutter, although it was loud enough that I could hear.
"Then why else?" I countered.
His eyes widened as he realised I heard. "Nothing."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I was sitting in class in my normal seat up the front when the teacher told us to get in pairs to complete a class assignment. Not a moment later and Zero was standing in front of my desk. I hadn't even had the chance to look around the class at who was paired who so far.
"Can I work with you?" He asked quickly.
"Sure." I smiled and motioned for him to sit. He usually partnered with Yuki because she often needed help with it.
"I don't really understand this topic."
"Oh, I thought you were good at this."
"Was but that's past tense. I forgot what you're supposed to do here."
"Oh well that's easy, you just do this." I showed him what to do with the equation.
"Then what?"
"Really?" I raised my eyebrow. "Then you move this over here, get rid of that and do that." I continued to explain.
"You're exhausted and yet your brain can still handle all of this."
"Zero it's really not that hard to do honestly, it's so easy. Here, you try the next one on your own." He started scribbling things down on the paper, purposefully making mistakes. "Hey, you did that on purpose. Look Zero, if you wanted me to do all of it you honestly could have just said, I wouldn't have gotten mad."
"What? I didn't. I don't get it." I groaned and explained it again, this time he got it right away. We finished the work set and I took it up to the teacher. I sat back with Zero quietly and waited until the bell rang.
"Well. Time to get to work." I yawned and stretched as I stood up out of my seat.
"(y/n), you don't have to force yourself awake. You can go home and rest if you need to."
"It's fine really. Maybe the extra work will make me more tired and help me actually get to sleep."
"Just take it easy." He sighed and caught up with Yuki. I plodded along with my books in my bag on my back, too tired or bothered to take it back to my dorm room first. I headed to the gate at the entrance to the night class dorm and sat against the wall as I waited for the crowd to arrive.
Checking my watch after a while I wondered where Zero and Yuki were. "And he goes on about me slacking off, where are they? There's already a pretty vast crowd here."
I stood up slowly and stretched. I expressed my thoughts to the audience. "I'm surprised by the amount of you who have returned after our little chat the other day. I'm impressed at how incredibly bold you are. Go home you insolent fools." I smiled sarcastically. Most of the girls who were now aware of my presence left.
"You can be so cruel sometimes (y/n)." Yuki said.
"I'll take that as a compliment today. It's about time you two turned up."
"Weren't scared were you?" Zero raised an eyebrow.
"I think we all just saw how capable I am alone."
The gate finally opened and and we held back the smaller group of fangirls.
"(y/n), you must be so scary to make so many of my fans run away, it's just not fair. To walk through a crowd as small as this, it's certainly too quiet and unexciting." He ignored the warning stares given by the other night students but this sort of behaviour is what I asked for at the start of everything. To be treated like a normal student. Besides this is how it's always been with him.
"It's a part of what I do Hanabusa. Just trying to make our job a little easier." I smiled and gave a short inaudible laugh.
"Even so, it's worth having you in my crowd." He came closer to me and stared deeply into my eyes and winking with a wide grin on his lips.
I smiled sarcastically. "Sure is, now get to class." I clapped him on the back, giving a slightly serious look as a warning. His eyes widened at the connection my hand made with his shoulder and bowed lightly. A few girls around us screamed and talked out of jealousy. One boy in the distance seethed with rage at the familiarity shown by Aido, his face unchanged and his feelings unnoticed.
