Into the Den

Inuyasha POV

The next morning after our talk/good byes with Kaede, Kouga Shippo and I made our way to his wolf pack. He said it would take either a full day or two depending on fast we move and how much we rest. He could be back there in one day, but he didn't since he knew even I struggle to keep up with him. We soon arrived to a creak where we stopped to take a break. Shippo ran off to the water and put his feet into the water. I smiled at the little fox child as Kouga slide some meat into my face. 

"Here eat up. You need to gain back your energy before we head back out. At these rate we'll reach my den by sundown. Just in time for dinner, at that time I will tell the elders of yours and Shippos arrival into the pack, and that you two will be my guest as you two stay here until you find a suitable place to call your own."  Said Kouga as he ate the other part of the meat and saved some for Shippo. I could tell in the tone of Kouga's voice that he was a good leader to his pack. He was wise and he knew to respect the elders of the pack who gave wisdom to the leader. this remind me of the humans I used to see in the village with Mother. A small smile came to my face as I remembered her fondly. I could feel Kouga giving me a weird look so I stopped thinking about her and ate the meat he gave me just as Shippo grabbed his portion and ate in my lap.

After we finished we headed back onto the road at a quick pace to make it before night. A few hours passed and Kouga came to a stop and so did I. We stopped in front of a huge mountain with a raging waterfall in front of it. I could smell wolfs near by and in the loud roar of the water Kouga let out a loud howl to which Shippo covered his ears but this didn't seem to bother me. After  a bit a pathway opened up into the waterfall and Kouga turned and looked at us. "Welcome to my packs den." And with that he walked in as Shippo and I followed him in. As soon as we entered Kouga was greeted by his friends Ginta and Hakkaku who were asking a billion questions. 

Shippo and I just looked at each other letting them have their moment, but soon Ginta did realize that we were here too. "Ohh Hey Inuyasha and Shippo. What brings you two here?"He asks. That was Kouga was finally free to speak. "I invited them to come live with us while he tries to find a place for them both to live. Inuyasha here wishes to raise Shippo as his son and help train him. We are about to go talk to the elders so they know they're are here as my guests." Explained Kouga. They both nodded. "Understood, but you should know the Elders are not the best of moods. They're still mad you left before you got to meet the women they picked for you." Said Hakkaku. I felt my chest tighten up a bit but I did not let it show on the outside. Shippo could tell though and he gently held onto my shoulder more to comfort me. I showed him a small smile to show him I was okay. To which he nodded as we turned our attention back to them. 

Kouga let out a deep sigh as he shook his head. "I told them already to let me choose my own mate. All the women they pick just want to be pampered and don't truly care for the pack or if we have pups." I looked at Kouga as he spook the words he said were the same ones I thought to myself . "My mate has to be strong to help me protect our pack, loving to our pups, and beautiful. I want to be able to walk around the den and have them all jealous of their beauty." He laughs at the last part wearing a big smug look on his face. I felt my heart heat up a bit since from his words I felt like I could possible have a chance with him, but I knew not to get my hopes up. I did not want to be heartbroken ever again.

"And that Kouga is why you became Alpha. You care about us first before yourself, and your mate should to. Just wish the elders did as well."Sighed Ginta. And before I could even shut myself up the words just left my mouth. "Have you not told them how you feel about this? And if you have why not instigate pack rule 49. 'If the party wishes to find their true mate give them 3 New Moons. If they do not find them then, they will listen to the elders and go with the mate they pick.' That was the code of the Inu-Daiyokai and Old Wolf  clan left to me by my late Father who left the code to Sesshomaru and I to read."  

After I finished talking I covered my mouth and looked at them. Everyone had wide eyes and looked at me if I had grown an extra head. "What the hell Mutt where did that come from?" Exclaimed a confused Kouga. "Well I was just telling you my opinion. If they bother you to much just do that and they'll shut up flea bag." I answered back glaring at him. We stared each other down until Ginta got between us. "He does have a point though Kouga. Old pack law is still active since you never took it down. So you could do that to bid you more time to find the mate that fits you." I was happy to hear that Ginta liked my plan. "Though Inuyaha I know you are a hanyo, but how do you know this code so well?" He asked curiously.

I let out a loud sigh. "It helps when your old man was Lord of the West till he passed. He left a book for me to read up on as his second son so maybe one day I could get a long with Sesshomaru, but like that will ever happen. Man still wants to rip me to shreds, but he has gotten to the point its not as bad." I explained looking at them. "Wait a minute, are you saying your the Great Inu's Demon son?" Asks Kouga surprised. I just gave him a quick nod. "Okay now that explains a whole lot now, but as to what you said I'll give it some thought. For now lets go introduce you two to the elders." And with that he walked away.

Shippo and I said goodbye to the two wolfs and soon followed behind to catch up to Kouga. Hoping that the elders wouldn't kick them out, but even if they did I knew I could keep us safe as we traveled from village to village. Even so a part of him wanted to stay with Kouga so they could grow maybe closer and maybe just maybe. I could be his mate like I want to be deep down in my heart.
