Queen Sophie's POV.
I sit on the bed beside Sadie, a bandage around her neck.
I know she's going to survive, she just needs time to heal.
I look up at the door creaks open, revealing Doctor Mustang, his face lowered down slightly.
"How is she?" I asked, standing up.
Doctor Mustang shook his head, his eyes sympathetic.
"I'm sorry, she bled out in the cave. She won't survive." He said.
I lowered back down onto the bed beside Sadie. "It's alright. Thank you for trying. Have you told Phillip and his wife?"
"No, I will now, though." The doctor started to walk out the door, but I pulled his arm back.
"I'll do it." I said. He nodded.
"I'll stay in here and keep an eye on Sadie." He said.
"Thank you." I smiled.
I walked out of the room to find Phillip and his wife sitting on a bench outside the door.
"Is she okay?" Phillip asked.
"Yes, Sadie is fine, but.." I hesitated.
"But what?" I could see in their eyes they already knew what I was going to say.
"Your daughter... She didn't make it." I said, looking down on the floor.
Phillip's wife sat onto the bench again, staring into nothing. Phillip sat down beside his wife and they hugged as they sobbed.
I tried to comfort them, but the doctor ran out of the door, smiling.
"Good news! Sadie is awake!" He said.
We all ran in to see Sadie, sitting up, her eyes panicked.
She looked at me and I saw in her eyes she felt even the tiniest bit safer.
She opened her mouth to speak, but all that came out were harsh, raspy breaths.
"It's okay, Sadie." I said, comfortingly putting my hand on her shoulder.
I could tell she had so many questions, I handed her a peice of paper and a quill.
"Sadie, you can't talk, it'll hurt your throat. Write what you're trying to say on this." I said.
She nodded.
She looked down on the paper, and struggled to write with the quill, as I expected. She soon got the hang of it, and started writing.
She showed me the paper, filled with words.
Where is the other girl? Is she okay? What happened to Jackson? What's wrong with my throat? Am I gonna die? Will I never be able to talk again? Where are we?
"Sadie," I struggled to get the words out of my mouth. I didn't want to have to talk about the poor girl again. I looked at Phillip. He didn't know what to say either.
I looked back at Sadie, who wrote another thing on the paper.
She's dead... Isn't she?
I nodded, a tear falling down my cheek.
The poor girl, only about five. She had a long life to live, and a selfish man took it from her for no reason. That's why he will be executed. He will burn to a crisp, as deserved.
Sadness and grief filled Sadie's eyes, starting to cry as well. I reached in for a hug, and we stayed like that for a long time, until I let go and told her what happened to Jackson.
After he cut through Sadie's throat, anger grew inside me. How could he do this to his own daughter? I stood up, gripping my sword. I head it to his throat, but he punched me in the stomach. I was on the floor, and he was standing above me, his dagger above my head.
I saw my life flash through my eyes, I was accepting my fate, but just as Jackson was ready to kill me, I saw Lilly open her mouth, a gold beam hitting Jackson on his side. Jackson screamed and fell to the floor.
He was knocked out. I hadn't seen that kind of power in... Eons..
That was when I realized, Lilly is a Sphinx.
"After you passed out, I ran to Jackson and knocked him out." I lied. "I dragged him out with Phillip and his wife helping me. He's in the dungeon. He will be burned to a crisp for his crimes."
Sadie nodded, smiling. It hurt me to lie to her, but she needed to get better. I don't want her trying to get out of bed to try and leave this world, not yet. She needs to get better first.
"You will be able to talk in a week." Doctor Mustang started. "But your ribs are broken and you won't be able to breath properly for a month."
Sadie looked down, disappointed. It makes me sad she won't be able to go home for another month, but she needs to heal.
I comfort Sadie until she falls asleep, and we all go our separate ways.
A week later, we're dressed in black for the funeral.
The poor girl, who I learned was Tiana, died because of a cruel man, who will die soon enough. The girl will be avenged.
Phillip and his wife, Margret, are crying on the casket, holding their only child inside.
It breaks my heart to see my people sad, especially when there's nothing I can do.
The pope gave a speech in honor of the girl, and Phillip and Margret tried to lighten the mood by bringing up silly moments with their daughter, but it only made it worse.
After hours of complete sadness, Phillip, Margret and I all went to see Sadie, who looked excited, holding up a poster.
The poster has pictures of Phillip, Margret and Tiana, happy and a family.
Sadie tried to speak, and we were able to understand what she was saying, but her voice is raspy and dry, like a quill running out of ink.
"It's a family album." She struggled.
We smiled at her, Phillip and Margret crying tears of joy.
Sadie was healing faster than Doctor Mustang had expected.
Sadie will be able to go home soon.
