I hadn't slept last night, afraid there would be terrifying creatures in the night, like Charles was talking about.

Every time I heard the leaves scatter on the ground, or fall out of the trees, I hid behind the log that was beside the dead fire. I was terrified of every sound.

But something would keep me from worrying, even just for a few minutes.

I wanted to know more about these people. What was Charles talking about when he said that Agatha had met someone "Like me"?

I must have fallen asleep at some point, though, because I opened my eye lids to see the sun shining down on me.

And thank goodness for that.

We walked even further, longer than the day before.

Charles had brought his mother aside so he could talk to her. Probably about helping me get home, as I assumed. They soon cam back, and Charles grinned at me before he walked off to get more twigs for wood.

"I knew you were different." Agatha said. "You'r clothes are different."

"I've heard that before." I replied, adding an awkward laugh to it.

"Well, I am willing to help." She said, looking down at me to give me a smile. "But first, you need to promise me you'll help me and my son."

"What? What could I do to help?" I ask, raising my voice. "There's nothing I could do, I'm only twelve!"

"And that's why you'd be of good use." Agatha looked back at the ground. "The queen won't expect you of all people to rise up to her."

"I'm not rising up to anyone!" I shout. "I just want to go home!"

"Then I will not help you." Agatha said calmly.

"Goodbye, Agatha." I said, frowning. "I hope you live on and don't lose anymore of your family."

And I walked off.

I was angered, and all I wanted was to go home. But what good would I be now that I've left? None. There was nothing to get food from, no water, no shelter. And what Charles had said to me about monsters would haunt me throughout the night, for I had nothing to protect myself.

I had feared I would die.
