Mission day 1
Bright sun rays penetrated into a Chicago Dreams' suite as a dark silhouette stirred in her sleep and nonchalantly woke up. Traces of wet tears were printed on her rosy cheeks and vulnerability was visible throughout her entire body. Deep marks of cutting were dominating her right wrist as her left one was covered with unforgettable scars, nearly noticeable. A wide-opened suitcase lied on the ground with a bloody blade that was supposed to help kill criminals on it.
Depressed and in sharp pain, the lost woman decided to skip breakfast and prepare herself for the beginning of the mission. As soon as she stepped out of the hotel room, her whole expression stiffened and she put her mask back on. Pretend, pretend, and pretend that everything's okay. That she has a perfect and fabulous life. That's she's truly happy.
But it was all a lie, and she knew it better than anyone else.
Miley, with a tough and inscrutable face, passed by the suspicious red-haired receptionist without according her one single glance, and carelessly crossed the street to the Chicago Super Model Company. She needed to focus on her important mission and completely push aside her personal insecurities.
The world needed her to stop a criminal, and people could always count on her. It couldn't be the other side around since no one is ever here for her. Not Joe. Not Demi. Not Selena. Not even Nick.
They didn't know half of her life, really.
___
On the other side of the country, in Washington DC, it was the complete opposite. The hyperactive Selena jumped out of her bed as soon as her alarm clock hit six in the morning, and rushed to the bathroom for a hot shower. Nothing better to celebrate this soon-to-be eventful day, right? She grinned to herself, wondering how the others' day will go.
A few minutes later, she was already devouring pancakes and bread, cozily installed on the hotel room's couch. She verified twice her messages, but apart from Nick's smiley face, no one answered her last SMS.
Shrugging her shoulders, she gently picked up her work bag and took a taxi to the national security officers team's building. She soon contemplated the white skyscraper with interest, observed its many entrees, watched the soldiers protecting it, and even studied the well-dressed gentleman entering it.
It was more impressive than she thought and she was absolutely love-struck with it. It seemed so fierce from the outside like it was actually the king of the world. Feeling happiness invading her body, she followed one of the officers and made her way into the office. Before she could do it, she was stopped by the brutal officer who sent her murderous daggers with only his eyes.
"Stop," he ordered in a menacing tone. "If you're a lost tourist searching for the beach, you are not at the right place."
Offended that someone spoke to her so harshly and feeling disrespected by the prejudice, Selena crossed her arms over her chest. "Excuse me, sir, but don't talk to someone you don't know with this tone. It doesn't mean that I'm a tourist nor that I like beaches just because I'm a woman."
"I don't have time for these games! Little girl, stay away from this building! There are actual humans with strict and important jobs in this city!" the man with short brown hair and mysterious chocolate eyes lectured.
"That's why I'm here!" Selena explained, her good mood slowly fading away.
"I'm sick of arguing with a girl, it's ridiculous!" He growled, grabbing ferociously her arm and dragging her towards the chief's room. "I don't care who you are, a reporter or a model, but you will have to pay an amend for infiltrating the national security building! It's almost as prestigious as the president's house! I'm glad I caught you!"
Selena was about to yell back, but they already entered the chief's office where an old man lied on a royal chair, surrounded by endless files and piles of work to achieve.
"I found her wandering around the hallways, and it's illegal!" the tall man directly claimed.
"I was not wandering, and stop acting so savage!" screamed Selena, rubbing softly her sore arm with red marks slowly appearing on it.
The chief glared at both of them with a disappointed face. "Silence!" he required strictly. "Justin, don't be so stubborn. You are only talking to your new colleague, who by the way impressed me with her outstanding skills. I didn't know women could train for five years for a job like this one. You must be dedicated!"
Selena rose with pride and glanced victoriously at the shocked and speechless face of her new co-worker. Justin, she thought sarcastically. She didn't know what Nick put in her fake CV this time, but she was incredibly thankful to him at the moment.
"I believe you already know everything about this job. If you miraculously forgot about the rules, don't hesitate to ask Justin here. He's the best officer... after you of course!"
Justin rolled impatiently his eyes, irritated with the new intruder. A girl even, he thought bitterly. A gorgeous one with attractive lips, delicate hair, and big innocent green eyes.
"Don't worry about us, chief. We'll get along just fine!" Selena assured while forcing a smile.
"I don't doubt. You are now dismissed," concluded the old man with a pleased and satisfied face.
Selena nodded, smiling slightly, and quit the office room with her new partner Justin.
