He was flying down the road, his heart officially broken. Joe sat beside his best friend, his voice screeching at each epic turn. Collisions were close to happening twice but were fortunately avoided in the nick of time. The other cars on the street honked in a piercing sound, but Nick didn't care about his safety, nor Joe's.

All he knew was Miley's suicide attempt. All he could hear was the defeating sound of the ambulance's sirens, and the imploring voices of paramedics urging him to come. He was coming. Damn, he was.

"Nick!" shouted Joe, dizzy with his adrenaline rush. "I know you love Miley, but please slow down! If you don't, I think we're also gonna arrive at the hospital in ambulances!"

They swerved again, this time Nick jammed his car right in front of the hospital, not caring about the parking rules. Joe squealed like a little girl at the abrupt stop, but Nick remained cold as stone. The latter didn't waste any time to jump out of the vehicle, in one leap. Things were a blur when he tried to force his way through the crowd.

"Wait for me!" Supplicated Joe, trying to find the car's keys to not be stuck outside.

Nick ignored his friend and didn't hesitate to charge to the hospital's receptionist. In a minute or so, he was already in front of the room's door.

"You might wait here. Miss Cyrus just finished the surgery," explained the tall doctor, wiping the sweat out of his forehead.

"I need to see her! Let me in!" barked the special agent, his body shaking like he was having a seizure. "She's my whole world!"

The doctor sighed, but Nick didn't even wait for his approbation. He bounded towards the door and his world suddenly crashed down when he saw her. Miley lied in bed, covered with a white blanket stained with fresh blood. The worst was her shoulder; he could clearly see the deep cut where she stabbed herself.

And it profoundly pained him.

Her face. God, her face was pale, lifeless. He couldn't, truly couldn't, handle the sadness and ache he felt at the sight of her so... Vulnerable. He'd give anything for them to exchange places.

"She's in a coma," revealed the desolate doctor. "I believe she went through something traumatic to behave so drastically. I found her dossier and according to it, she has always been stabbed one year ago at the same place. Right now, she's losing a lot of blood, especially because her past injury didn't fully recover, but we tried everything to slow it down. She's stable, but unfortunately in an undetermined period of coma."

Nick felt like someone just dislocated his heart. How could all of this happen behind hi back? He felt so guilty and responsible for her, and it pained him to not even know why she did it. Miley is secretive about her past, but each time some information slips, it's a bad one. He knows something traumatic happened. He knows that Miley is, in reality, an insecure girl behind her rough mask. He knows she has many deep secrets, and memories which push her to unstoppable nightmares.

But what he didn't know was to which extent. And he can guarantee that he'd never, ever think that she'd do anything so drastic. A suicide attempt. His Miley. No... No... No... His mind refused to believe it.

"Please come back...", he prayed weakly, taking her pale hand into his. "I love you. Don't do this to me. Don't do this to yourself. I need you." He shed some tears, and let it roll down his cheeks. There was still no movement from his loved one. From the outside, she looked like she was sleeping peacefully, but he knew that she was having a battle internally. "Don't leave me."

Still no gesture. Still no move.

Nick covered his face into the nape of Miley's neck and sobbed until he fell asleep.
