Mission day 3

Miley adjusted her leather jacket and let out a heavy sigh. It was early in the morning, very early indeed. She paced back and forth in the empty street, mentally preparing herself for an important operation.

Closing her eyes, she gave herself some courage and stopped in front of a modern house with windows everywhere. It wasn't a random house, of course. According to the information she received from the agent unit, it was Matt's house and he was supposed to be asleep. Miley tiptoed to the garden before glancing up and down the tree that she'll have to climb. It was high and rough, but not impossible.

"You can do this," she mumbled to herself while she gripped a solid branch of the tree. "You're on duty and you can't fail."

Without making any sound, she climbed to the window and slid her mission knife from her black boot. She then managed to open it and carefully slipped into the warm room, hoping for the best.

To her relief, Matt didn't even stir. One distracted move of her could jeopardize all the effort her team had done until now. The special agent spotted Matt's phone and took it without any hesitation. With her necessary informatics skills, she unlocked it without any problem and searched for the new messages.

Her eyes instantly lit up when she saw one short text sent only a few hours ago. It had the mention 'brother' on it, so she logically guessed that it was Zac.

I have the new girl with me. I plan to eliminate her in exactly one week, but that's only if she listens to me. She was fun to play with, but I don't need her anymore. The world will one day understand to not mess with me.
-J, Colour of death

The name used ran in her mind like a roller coaster. What does the color of death mean? Red for the blood? Black for the dark side? It could be anything, but she'll leave it to Nick.

"Why? Who are you?" cried a known voice, making Miley gulp in fear.

She tried to find an escape and even considered attacking him, but when she turned around, she found Matt still asleep in his bed. Sleep talking, maybe; it was quite common.

"I can't recognize you anymore, Zac," whispered Matt with a broken voice. "I still love you despite all, but stop messing around with so many lives using a weird nickname."

Miley waited for more details about the pseudonym but realized that Matt fell asleep. Of course... Things are never easy. The special agent sighed silently and made her way back to the hotel. She had to contact Nick as soon as possible.

Sunshine. The world brightened with sunshine.

As Selena awoke, the morning rays lifted her eyelids, bringing her the vision of a large window in Justin's guest room. She was welcomed with the view of Washington DC, something that she was not used to.

With a smile on her illuminated face, she walked out of the living room, smelling coffee and delicious pancakes. Observing Justin cooking ameliorated her easy-going mood even more; she wanted to wake up like this every day.

"Good morning," greeted Justin dressed in a simple V-neck t-shirt. "The breakfast will be ready soon. You can wait on the couch if you prefer."

"Thank you!" She beamed happily. "You don't have to do that..."

"No worries," he assured, his smile never faltering. "I like to cook."

She nodded, her gaze falling on his phone when it vibrated violently. He ignored it as he prepared two mugs for them.

"Aren't you gonna answer your texts?" She asked, uneasy, almost disturbed. "I mean, in case your ex-girlfriend wants to contact you."

He laughed, but she couldn't figure out if it was sarcastic or not. "Believe me, princess, there's absolutely no woman in my life. They all ran away from me."

Selena smiled at him, feeling nothing but relief and delight, even though she didn't know why. Probably because she was scared of him cheating after yesterday's events. Or maybe she wanted him to herself. "Do you believe in love at first sight?" She inquired dreamily, the words promptly leaving her mouth before she could over-analyze it. She was a spontaneous girl and she couldn't help it; it was part of her crazy personality.

Justin grinned and sat in front of her. "I do. I'm a believer. Why do you ask?"

Selena shrugged carelessly her shoulders, sipping the coffee. She wasn't even sure herself why she thought about that random question.

"I used to not believe in fairy-tale," Justin openly admitted. "I actually didn't believe in anything or anyone and I'd just do everything in my own way. Maybe that's why my parents made me an orphan."

Selena flinched slightly, wondering how could Justin keep his calm while saying such painful words. She wouldn't cope with it if she was in his shoes. "And... aren't you sad?" She swallowed with difficulty.

Justin still didn't break the gaze and cracked a melancholic smile. "I was mad and hurt for so long, especially when I changed foster home every single year. When I reached eighteen, I left everything behind and came here. I decided to stop blaming myself for something that wasn't my fault because life is too ephemeral for worries."

Selena stared at the curious stranger with intrigue, almost amazement. He was an interesting man, and more she knew about him, more she was attracted to his personality.

"Carpe diem, as we all say!" added the security agent, chuckling. His phone vibrated another time and Selena pointed at it. "It's chief," said Justin, scrolling down his new messages. "He gives us a day off which is very unusual. But hey, I don't complain." He dropped his phone and locked eyes with Selena again. "Where do you want to go?"

The special agent raised both of her eyebrows eagerly and soon jumped on her feet. "The beach! The beach!" She ordered with a light smile. "It looks sunny outside, and I have three swimming suits in my backpack!"

"Didn't you see that girls don't necessarily like beaches the first day we met?" teased Justin with a goofy grin. "I didn't know my princess was such a bad liar."

Selena smiled even more at the 'my' he used. Was she his? Just the idea of it made her jump in excitement. "I said girls don't necessarily like beaches; I didn't specify myself," she pointed out in an overly joyful tone.

"Beach it is." mocked Justin, grabbing his keys and shoving it in his jeans' pocket. "I know one not so far."

Selena nodded enthusiastically like she forgot about the mission. "How do you even remember what I said? "

Justin entered the car and avoided her curious look. This girl... this girl... this girl... she was sunshine.

"I always remember what you say," sweetly replied the man, satisfied to see her blush.
