Demi Lovato is a typical college student, but is also secretly part of an unit of special agents - undercover cops-. Her life changes and takes an unexpected turn when her team receives a dangerous mission. Meanwhile, new feelings are starting to de...
"I don't understand why we have to wait for her if she'll never even come," I repeated grumpily for at least the tenth time.
Miley threw her hands in the air as I slumped into the Florida airport's couch. I didn't want to see Selena; maybe because I was still mad at her, or I was secretly ashamed of my yesterday's accusations.
"Don't avoid her because of a stupid fight, Demi," Miley advised with outstanding maturity. "You girls' friendship is stronger than some rock blocking the way, do you understand me? I know you'll reconcile in no time."
"I don't want to reconcile," I objected stubbornly.
Miley rolled her eyes and ignored my comment. She then turned towards the three men and asked: "When is the next flight from Washington DC arriving?"
Nick inspected the schedule another time and shrugged his shoulders. The flight was late anyway, so they had no other option than to wait.
"When will you understand that she'll never come? I bet she quit the mission already," I viciously spat with my nasty morning mood.
"And I thought I was the depressive one!" Miley exclaimed while throwing her hands in the air, exasperated with my behavior.
Nick chuckled, Cole shook his head and Joe gently put his hand on my shoulder as an attempt of calming me down. I caved in, knowing they were all right. I stopped whining and waited patiently for the others. Miley threw a glance to Joe, surprised by his ability to shut me up. She then gasped towards the entree, and almost squealed when a wave of passengers appeared.
"Okay, she's right there!" Nick stated with his usual piercing eyes. "Selena, we are right here!"
Selena, at last, raised her head and my heart instantly skipped a beat. She looked -oh, I don't even have a sufficient adjective to describe her- absolutely woebegone. Forlorn. Plaintive. It was like she didn't sleep for an entire week, starved herself and then faced one of those hurricanes which provoke havoc and calamities.

"Selena..." breathed out Joe, feeling protective. "Do you feel alright?"
She didn't respond at all. She threw him a blank look like she couldn't even analyze the question properly. Her state then stopped at me, and I gulped down the lump in my throat with great difficulty. I would say she looked like a zombie who managed to walk out of its grave a while ago.
"The dark circles around your eyes... Oh my god, they're bloodshot! What the damn hell happened?!" Miley gasped, bringing her hand to her mouth.
She shrugged carelessly her shoulders and walked past us. Joe and Nick exchanged a worried look while Cole frowned vividly. I closed my eyes briefly and decided to run after her. I cared about her. I lied yesterday; she was one of the kindest persons I ever encountered.
"Sel!" I yelled, stopping at a meter ahead of her and forcing her to gaze into my eyes. "I'm sorry! I shouldn't have asked you to leave your man, and that was selfish on my part. You can quit the mission if that's what you really want, and I have no right to yell at you like I did yesterday. I have my flaws, Selena, and I beg for your forgiveness. You're not irresponsible. You're not impulsive. You're perfect, and I swear that's what I sincerely think. Please don't hate me."
Selena blinked, bewildered, before saying: "I could never ever hate you even if I tried, Demi... If there's anyone who has to apologize between the both of us, it's definitely me."
Now, it was my turn to be confused. Wasn't it me who pushed her too hard to leave Justin when their relationship didn't concern me one bit? How could she even blame herself?
"You were trying to to be a friend to me," Selena explained. "You lectured me, not because you felt disappointed or judgmental, but because you cared about my safety. You cared for me. So please don't apologize for something that isn't your fault. I messed with Justin's heart. I lied to Justin. I neglected the mission. I left him. You tried to protect me, but I ruined it."
At that moment, I understood the intensity of our friendship. Sometimes, even best friends fight, but we always get back at each other and that's the most important thing.
"We both made mistakes, but we both forgive each other," I pointed out. "I love you, Selena. Come here."
I wrapped my arms around her back, pulling her into a tight hug. Miley and the rest of the crew stared at us in awe. I felt so good. So happy.
Meanwhile
Miley has never been an emotional person. Therefore, he could feel tears forming underneath her eyelids as she watched the beautiful scene unraveling in front of her eyes. Love & friendship are gifts that we have to accept because they come straight from our hearts.
As a good friend, she also had to try to fix her friend's mistakes. An idea forming at the back of her head, she excused herself and hurried to the bathroom. It only took her a few operations on her special agent's phone before discovering Justin's personal phone number. It was almost crazy, all the things they could do with this career. Pleased with herself, she clicked on it without hesitation. After a few seconds, a masculine and somehow husky voice answered.
"Hello. Is this Justin Bieber?" She politely asked just to make sure.
"Yes, it is. Who is it?" croaked the man, even his voice sounded in pain.
"I am Miley Cyrus, one of Selena's best friends."
She heard a heavy silence, and almost shivered in fear. She suddenly felt so unwelcome and bit her lip, embarrassed. She was about to excuse herself and chicken out, but Justin was faster.
"What do you want? Don't accuse me of making your friend cry, because she hurt me and not the other way around."
"I know," Miley said while expelling a gust of air. "I was calling for other reasons. I actually want you to come to Florida. Is it possible that you can catch the next plane and arrive tomorrow?"
She heard a shocked gasp and smiled in satisfaction. She expected him to have a negative response, but she will do the necessary to convince him. "It's important," she insisted. "You know... Selena has been lying to you, but it's not what you think. You'll discover the truth here, I promise. All I can say is... she did this to protect you. To save others. And because she had to."
"What?" groaned Justin, completely lost now. "What do you mean, she had to? Who are you, and why are you chanting these incoherent phrases? I think you got the wrong number..."
"Listen, Justin!" Miley snapped, patience not being her biggest quality. "She loves you. You love her. She needs you. You need her. What is so complicated in that? Did she seem to lie about her feelings? Did she seem eager to quit you? She would have never done a thing like this by choice, Justin, and deep in your heart, you know it better than anyone else. So stop arguing and get your butt her before you lose her forever."
"But... but..." he stammered, sincerely at loss of words. "I don't know... I'll think about it."
"Okay, it's settled! I'll send you the plane ticket in a few minutes!" Miley exclaimed, knowing that her friend's ex-boyfriend was about the crack. "See you tomorrow!"
She ended the call before he could reply and grinned to herself. The things she does for Selena... but it's worth it if it means that her best friend would be happy again. Insanely proud, Miley smugly praised herself and winked at her reflection in the mirror.
