Prolouge

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Mackenzie Ziegler strutted into school, looking dazzling as usual. She never failed to turn heads, and she knew that of course. That's why she was the queen bee right? She had the confidence, looks and defiantly the attitude.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This day Mackenzie's hair was in ring curls, that flowed loosely down her back. Her light brown hair with natural blonde streaks was glistening in the sunlight.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Her makeup was amazing, it always looked like a professional did it, but it was her. Her skin was absolutely flawless, of course making everyone else jealous. She was pretty with and without cosmetics, and she knew it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Her cloths never failed to make girls re-think their whole wardrobe either. Today she had on a baby pink sweater, and a black mini skirt. Her purse was one of the newest at Michael Kors, and her shoes were at least three hundred dollars.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Being rich and beautiful were only two things that rose her status at Eastside High, there was also the fact that she could be a manipulating bitch. It sounds awful, but you'd be surprised at how much it can make you feared and well known.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Her confidence was key to everything. She knew she was prettier than everyone else, she knew she was the richest, and she defiantly knew she was the most popular. Being insecure just lead you down a spiraling path to the bottom, which wasn't a problem for her, she wasn't self conscious about anything.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀As Kenzie walked past everyone in the school she knew all of their eyes were on her, because who else would they be looking at. She didn't give then the time of day though, because she had a boyfriend.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Their relationship was awful, but they didn't let on. They couldn't show weakness in front of their peers, because that school was like a jungle. If you showed weakness, someone would take your place, and that's wasn't happening to either of them anytime soon.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Her boyfriend just happened to be Hayden Summerall. He was the boy version of Kenzie, so obviously they were destine to be together...or were they?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Hayden had everything, he was captain of the football team for starters. He had all of the money anyone could dream of, but maybe not as much as Kenz. He was one of the hottest guys in the school, and most certainly the most popular.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie and him had liked each other at one time, but it was short. They got over it fast, yet they didn't break up, because it didn't look good. Them being together made them powerful, it was like the school was theirs.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Except of course their was the problem that the two of them felt nothing for the other. It was pretty miserable being in a relationship with someone you just put up with.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀What happened on February 12th 2021, changed everything. It all happened before homeroom when Mackenzie received a very interesting text.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀She had been doing her normal strutting when her phone dinged. She immediately grabbed it out of her pocket only to see the most depressing text she'd ever seen. Of course, she had to act unfazed though, showing anger or sorrow was not part of her act.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The text read 'Hayden and Julianna just walked into the janitors closet together. What's up with that?',it was from one of Kenzie's friends named Saryna. They weren't super close, but if it wasn't for her she wouldn't have known what had been going on behind her back.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Kenzie's heart broke when she read that. She never loved Hayden, but he was one of the only people that she thought cared about her for real. Yet, he never did apparently, and that's what hurt.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"That fucking bitch." Kenzie spat, shoving her phone back in her pocket. She knew she should be more mad at Hayden, and she was, but she couldn't help but to want to destroy Annie's life. Of course, that'd be a waste of her time though. Jayden and Brynn both looked to their best friend, who was red in anger.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Who's a bitch?" Brynn asked curiously as she tried to keep up with Kenzie who was making a beeline to the janitors closet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Annie LeBlanc." Kenzie answered simply as she neared the wooden door. It was painted in a trashy gloss coding, that was basically peeling off. There was a sign that's said 'Custodian' near the top of the door, and a metal handle on the door.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Without hesitating, Mackenzie grabbed the handle, as her best friends watched her in confusion. She swung open the door to a sight that broke her heart. She had to be strong though, show Hayden what a big mistake he made.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Annie's body was pressed close to Hayden's, as her arms were wrapped around his neck. His hand were near the end of her back, pulling her closer to him, as their lips were connected.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"What the hell?" Mackenzie screeched, getting both of their attentions. Hayden looked up from Annie and saw Kenzie, he immediately pulled his hand off of the other girl. Annie's face went red, as she tried to back away out of view to Kenz.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"It's not what it looks like." Hayden said quickly, making Mackenzie angrier. How dare he think he could try and make some lame excuse? He was kissing another girl! Kenzie may have been a lot of things, but she never came second to anyone, especially an absolute nobody.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Oh no no no. I'm not doing this Hayden, I am worth much more than this." She spat angrily at her boyfriend. He looked shocked, that she said that, because they were supposed to be together. They had basically been in an arranged marriage since freshman year. They originally started dating on their own, but once they did, their parents became obsessed thinking they were perfected together.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀They came from the two richest families in their town, and money seemed to be all their parents could comprehend. So, they loved that their kids were together the Summerall's law firm, and the Ziegler's franchise could expand extremely. Especially if they got married. Of course they couldn't force them to get married they just enforced the idea a ton, and made sure they knew what would happen if they ever broke it off.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"You can't do this Kenzie, if we break up..." Hayden trailed off, but she knew what he meant. She knew that they would never hear the end of it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"I don't care, and you know what else?" She asked cockily. Hayden stared at her confused, in the midst of this Annie had somehow slipped out, but neither of them noticed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"What?"

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Instead of answering Kenzie walked towards the nearest set of lockers. The fist boy her eyes landed on was Johnny Orlando, not her first choice, but he'd do. He'd make Hayden jealous enough.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He was talking to two other guys, Carson Lueders and Harvey Mills. They were his two best friends, but of course Kenzie didn't know that, or care.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀As she got closer to the group of boys, she caught their attention, but then again she caught everyone's attention. Basically the whole school was watching her as she stormed over there.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Without even thinking about it, Mackenzie basically grabbed Johnny, and pushed him into the locker at the same time. Her lips immediately connected with his, and she didn't stay that way very long. Honestly the idea of kissing someone other than her boyfriend kind of repulsed her, even if she barely like Hayden.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀She pulled away, let go of Johnny, and walked back in the direction she came from. No one asked questions they just started at her like she was crazy, because no one understood what just happened.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Johnny stood in place watching her as she walked away, him being the most confused of them all. Kenzie wasn't exactly proud of what she had done, but it taught Hayden a lesson. Maybe she couldn't break up with him at this time in her life, but he should know that's he's replaceable.
